This temple means 'Forgiveness for the Family'

🏡Wat Aphai Thayaram, commonly known as Wat Makok, is believed to have many olive trees in the area. Initially, the temple was very dilapidated and is presumed to have been built since the Ayutthaya period. 🧱According to a long poem inscribed on a lacquered and gilded teakwood panel, Prince Fa Men, the son of King Taksin of Thonburi, saw the temple in disrepair and ordered a major renovation in 1797. King Rama I attended the consecration ceremony in 1801. 🙏🏽The name of the temple in the long poem is 'Aphai Tharam', likely a royal name given by Prince Fa Men, meaning 'Forgiveness for the Enemies' before it was changed to 'Wat Aphai Thayaram', meaning 'Forgiveness for the Family'.
