Can’t recommend this hostel enough. Had a lovely five days here reliving old memories of 50 years ago and making new ones. It’s a beautiful part of Scotland and the hostel is a wonderful resource for good value , comfortable and clean accommodation. The staff are all so friendly, helpful and kind, especially Jess, Ewan and Leanne. My single room was very basic but comfortable and had everything I needed. The bonus was the house martins nests outside my window. The communal areas are excellent, especially the kitchen which had free tea, coffee and milk provided. You are a bit away from the only shop but the hostel can sell you a ready meal for you to cook in the evening. You can also order croissants which are ready at 07:30 and warm. They are wonderful and definitely worth trying! The hostel has a brilliant leaflet of tracks and paths which is great for walkers. I walked daily and loved the scenery, wildlife and peace. There were quite a few visitors from France and Belgium and although my French wasn’t very good it was fun trying to communicate with them and the other folk. Sadly I didn’t catch the Applecross Inn open the two lunchtimes I tried, and the fish and chip van was also closed those lunchtimes. However one day there was another van, The Applecross Grill Society, and it sold very generously filled bacon rolls and tea or coffee. The banter was cheery too. The junction cafe seems to be permanently closed or so I was told. The “ Walled Garden” restaurant is well worth a visit and I did book two lunches there and was well pleased with my visits. Altogether I had a lovely stay and plan to book for a week next year. It’s worth noting that there is a minibus which goes from Inverness to Applecross return twice a week. It’s the only public transport so is a vital service for locals and tourists. Come prepared for all weather and midges though I was lucky and didn’t find either a problem.
