Melia Dunas Beach Resort & Spa

I don’t know where the last reviewer is staying, but it is not the mela dunas that I’m staying at. Arrived at 4 pm room not ready eventually put in what looks like a disabled accommodation, overlooking the front entrance. Not a great start, asked to move rooms, been told 6 pm today. So 2 days wasted and haven’t unpacked . Seems like unless you upgrade to the level at £50 each a day you get the old rooms . Never again Forgot to mention stains on floor

Everything was very good 👌👌We spent very good time- good food, drinks and the beaches are amazing .Good weather and the staff is very nice and helpful

Have been to Cape Verde 3 times previous to this visit, have always had an amazing experience. This hotel let this trip down, would not stay here again

Thank you so much Keith for posting this about the water outage – I agree with everything you say except for us the water issue started pm on Wednesday 24th April. The resort is so large it is possible that various areas of the site were cut off from the water supply at different times. I acknowledge that there was an issue with the desalination plant but it totally ruined our holiday. I feel we were lucky to get away without food poisoning/serious gastro issues. Only avoided by getting taxis into Santa Maria and eating there – bars/restaurants still had water?? NOT what you expect from All Inclusive. Stuff happens – not all of it good. The Melia staff did try to cope with a devastating event and I have to take my hat off to them. My biggest disappoin**ent however has been the response of Tui on return from holiday – basically saying the water did not go off until Friday 26 April supposedly ‘verified’ by someone in the resort. They are basically saying I am lying about when the water went off FOR US. This is adding insult to injury. A derisory offer of £50 PP compensation was offered by Tui – for 5 days of no toilets, showers and general insanitary conditions. Tui should have stepped and moved all of their guests – not just those who shouted the loudest. Water is a fundamental right. As you say there was water in neighbouring hotels and in most of the venues in Santa Maria. Indeed on our last night (28 April) we did as others had done and asked/demanded to be moved or flown home. We were moved to the Tortuga and surprisingly enough they had experienced no water outage? Why, I have to ask, was Melia/Sol Dunas so badly affected for 5 days when others just yards away not. Would appreciate Melia’s comments on this point and when they believe water went down. I was in room 317 by the boulevard which I believe is part of the Melia Dunas rather than Sol Dunas. I repeat - on 24 April when we returned from a day out approx. 5.00 pm there was NO water – in our room or surrounding communal facilities. Also if anybody out there is reading this that was there during this time would appreciate hearing your experience of when the water went off. I paid for my holiday through credit card so have some recourse if my communication with Tui does not go any further – given the response to date I am sure it will just be more of the same.

In reply to a previous comment I can only make the observation that there are thirty one thousand people in the south of England have no water and won’t be getting a shower this morning! (May 4th) I experienced the lack of water at Dunas and found the staff very sympathetic and helpful providing plenty of bottled water despite this not being a problem of their own making. The main water supplier worked very hard to restore the supply as quickly was possible.

A bit too large to call this hotel comfy. Nevertheless, in June the place is not so busy and we were quite happy with the ocean, all pools and nice selection of fish fór dinner. These were really marvellous. Spotted turtles on the beaches, all the tourist attractions, Shell cemetery, Sharks etc. The children really enjoyed.

We visited Meliá dunas 18-28 April and had a fantastic faultless first six days holiday then the water issue started, first for a couple of hours now and again, absolutely no water,no toilets no shower,no washing facilities,this progressively got worse. On 25 April until we came home in the 28 April there was a total loss of water supply the hotel was saying it was an issue with the whole of the island which we found out to be totally untrue as the hotel next door had no issues. I am not exaggerating when I say people were filling water bottles out of the swimming pool to clear the toilet as you couldn’t flush them 💩 so from the 25 April you to wash in bottled water ( No chance of having a shower) if you wanted to use the toilet you would use the communal toilets where there was a bucket of water to tip down the toilet and a bucket of water to wash your hands in. We asked the rep how they were washing the the dishes cutlery etc and they said they were using bottled water🤔 when you wake up at 3:00 in the morning desperate for the toilet and have to go out of your room to find a communal one that has a bucket if water it is not funny. Only to be fobbed of with it is “affecting the whole of the island “ never again

Had to wait a hour to check in, no issue as we were directed to lunch buffet. Driven to our room, very large,excellent storage and cold water in the fridge. Room cleaned every day by a lovely lady, fresh water and coffee replenished. Booked into 3 of the Al a carte restaurant, fabulous food and attentive cheerful service. Used Aqua for snack bar a couple of times, again food and staff really good. Buffet breakfast plentiful, loads of choice. Tables constantly cleared and food replenished. Really friendly staff here too. Beach bar great fun and great drinks. Plentiful sunbeds and pool entertainment spot on. Very hot while we were there but all staff members very cheerful and cracking service given, even the public loos were spotless. All in all nothing to complain about, fabulous last minute break, would definitely choose again, many thanks Melia Dunas and team

We stayed with the level wristband. Artur was our waiter most days by the pool and for breakfast and was fantastic. Made sure we had everything without even asking towards the end. Great service. Hotel staff were very friendly and all in all a wonderful stay.
