The main attraction of this hotel is its location on the Stupa circle with views of the Stupa from the rooftop cafe, but not from the rooms. However, there are other hotels that have views from the rooms but probably cost more. The hotel is accessed from one of the covered walkways leading off the circle and reception is in an open area next to the shops and the rooms are up the stairs opposite. Not an issue per se, but different enough to note. The room was quite small with insufficient room around the two single beds. The only window was to the corridor inside the hotel so lacked natural daylight...and privacy so we kept the curtains closed. The shower was not very warm but not a problem in August. Low water pressure was a slight issue too. Par for the course in a lot of budget places in Kathmandu. The toilet worked. The lack of power was a major issue: the electricity went off moments after we settled into the room; no lights and the sockets did not work. The receptionist said there was nothing she could do because the power was off in the whole hotel. This was not true because we could see lights in other rooms and the public areas. We asked to change rooms but this, apparently, was not possible - or too much trouble - despite most rooms being available. We insisted on a change then she instructed a security guard to fix the power. He did and it worked for a short while but when we returned after dinner there was no power and the only member of staff in the hotel at 8pm was a different security guard who could not speak English. So it was a night without light or a fan - an uncomfortably hot night in August. The morning discussion with reception did not lead to a solution; only more fiddling in the bowels of the building providing temporary electricity. The room rate included breakfast; this was clearly agreed when we checked in and paid and it also stated on the receipt - they required payment in advance. Despite this, the cafe tried to charge us but we stood our ground. The view was great, the breakfast OK though the menu was restricted because it was low season several of these options were still not available. The, it turned out, not all the items in the description could be provided. Oh well. If there was electricity then the other issues may have been tolerable for the location and views but overall this was not an enjoyable experience.
