Viticcio

We loved taking a tour here! The woman showing us around was super knowledgeable of the wine industry, history of Chianti, and of their wine. After the tour, you do a tasting of various wines and they were all delicious. It was about a 50 minute drive from Florence and we took the scenic route.

I'm Italian and I know the area from my childhood. I organised this trip after almost 20 years abroad to re-visit Chianti and Il Viticcio has been a dream come true, exactly the experience I wanted! I was proud to show the beauty of the region to my partner. The apar**ent Dolce Arianna was beautiful and clean, with a lovely patio. The swimming pool overlooks the vineyards, the whole location is just stunning. Lorena welcomed us warmly, she's been incredibly nice and friendly and she was also our host for the winery tour. We really enjoyed the way she shared her passion and knowledge for good quality wine with us. A wonderful stay!

What a beautiful setting with the Tuscany hills surrounding this winery! We were lucky enough to spend 2 nights & the villas were rustic type. We did not have a car but was able to walk into town & bring back pasta/sauce/fresh bread for dinner since there was a full kitchen. (Would have loved to have a cappuccino & croissant for breakfast but too far to walk just for breakfast) they only had coffee pods in room with Some crackers☹️ we did a wine taste with Mateo who was phenomenal! We all had a great tasting and tour & bought 2 cases of wine- very good & reasonable!

My wife and I came for the day to tour the winery, have lunch, and do a wine tasting. I was there in September so the grapes were on the vine and the harvest process was in full swing. Matteo was our guide for the day and he was instrumental in helping make this day so memorable and enjoyable. I loved seeing, smelling, tasting, and learning about the end to end process of wine and wine from Chianti. The tastings were generous and I took home several bottles afterwards. Additionally, lunch was a generous portion of absolutely beautiful and fresh food. I wholeheartedly endorse.

This is a dreaming place… Wow ! Typical toscane architecture, beautiful Winery and an amazing staff !!!! You all were so generous, sympathic and enriching ! You are bitting in your knowledge to share your passion to us. I recommand for sure :) Thanks again !

We only spend a weekend at Viticcio, but it made an phenomenal impression on us. The staff is very nice and made us feel at home immediately. The apar**ent is simple but has everything you need during your stay. The apar**ent is clean and the bed sleeps fine. The apar**ent has its own bbq, but next to the pool is a great place spend the evening drinking wine and eating roasted meat or vegetables. The wine tasting is a must at Viticcio. The hostess Olivia is very nice and knows everything about the wines they produce at Viticcio.

We spent two nights at Fattoria Viticcio and thoroughly enjoyed it. Check in was a little tricky as we were late and the hotel didn't advise us that there was a 6pm cutoff, but they left very detailed instructions so it all worked out. Room was as per the pictures- very nice overall, spacious, good kitchen, not a "4 star hotel" but we didn't pay for one. Beds are a bit hard, bathroom fixtures a bit chintzy. Grounds are lovely, pools are fantastic. Winery tour and tasting was great, Olivia was our guide and was very knowledegable and engaging. Viticcio is a 5-minute drive from Greve in Chianti, so lots of opportunity to pop in for a meal in a restaurant or some groceries.

Upon arriving in Florence, picking up a car, 4 of us ventured off in the pouring rain towards Fatoria Viticcio. The GPS took us through a beautiful stretch of the iconic Cypress trees as we navigated a washed out dirt road which reminded one of road rally. Once we reached the Winery however, everything came together. Lorena could not have been more fun, helpful, accommodating and above all, knowledgeable, as a trained Sommelier, of the wines and the wine making process. She treated us like VIP's as we were the only one's at the winey at the time. She was an absolute pleasure, expertly taking us through the many wines of Viticcio which we found to be exceptional, especially the Gran Selezione and the wonderful 2015 and 2016 Reservas which we could compare side by side. The Vermentino was a very pleasant surprise, as well being a superb representation of the grape. She also helped us find a local pharmacy and gave us some great tips on area restaurants. We will definitely be coming back to Viticcio to spend time at the winery and we'd highly recommend Fatoria Viticcio and Lorena as a must see, and taste, stop in Chianti.

This is the tranquil vineyard stay you’ve been dreaming of…the views from the pool are even better in real life than in the pics..imagine flip flopping from the pool to reception, grabbing a bottle of chilled Rose then sitting in the shallow end of the pool looking out at the Tuscan countryside. 😍 All of the about is real but there’s a few things to consider before choosing Viticcio. At €150 a night it would be the bargain of the century otherwise. - this is more of a working vineyard than a hotel. Staff are busy, the same staff checking you in are also dealing with vineyard tastings and tours. They will want to know when you will be arriving and there’s a window for check in. People are about the premises and there is a bit of noise in the am. There’s also a bit of construction going on at present. - Other than buying wine from the vineyard or a tour that includes a tasting platter, you’ll need to bring your food with you or eat out in Greve. - it’s remote - a 19 min walk up a steep hill from Greve. Very scenic on the way down but a killer on the way up with a 20kg duffel bag in 35C! (couldn’t get a taxi in Greve but maybe Viticcio could organise in advance). It was fine for us without the bag though. - Consider a car if you want to travel to other parts of Chianti. We managed to go to Panzano and back and to and from Florence getting there by bus but it would have been much easier with a car. Public transport and taxis are thin on the ground. - accommodation is quite basic but the kitchen is well equipped. We stayed in Viticcio and had a big outdoor table downstairs and a BBQ (buy BBQ fuel at the Coop in Greve). - no AC except a fan in 1 bedroom but the shutters kept the apar**ent relatively cool in 35C What we loved: - that view from the pool. It is the Tuscan view you’ve been looking for and you won’t be sharing it with many others. We often had the pool to ourselves. - if you are looking for peace and quiet to read your book or just wander about the vines, you’ll love how quiet it is in the evenings. It felt like we had the vineyard to ourselves. - the wine. You’ll get a free bottle of Chianti Classico and it’s delicious. Their Rose is great too. - eating outdoors. We had breakfast outdoors at our table every morning and had picnic lunches and dinners in the grounds. Buy meats/cheeses from the wonderful Antica Macelleria Falorni and fruit/everything else from the Coop in Greve. - La Castellana in Montefioralle was one of the best meals of 11 days in Italy. Very generous with their truffles and beautifully made pastas and meat dishes. Book in advance. - Lorena! Lorena was great - a natural host and a real asset to Viticcio. She managed to get us a table at La Castellana and kept in touch via WhatsApp and even went out her way and gave us a lift up to Montfioralle when she passed us in her car walking down the hill to Greve at the end of her shift. - Dario Cecchini’s restaurant and butchers shop (of Netflix Chef’s Table fame) is 10 mins
