This hotel is reasonably close to the Tuxtla Gutierrez airport, affordable, clean and generally comfortable. Following my usual review pattern, here are the Good, the Bad and the Ugly: The Good: I have 3 high priorities, and this hotel checked all 3 boxes. It didn't smell bad. It had comfortable sheets. It had a mini-split A/C that worked well enough to keep the room a nice temperature. The room was clean, the water hot, the wifi free, and the mattress comfortable (not something I can always say about Mexican hotels). The Bad: In our room, there was a window at the top of the shower that shown a bright green light into the room. Although I put a towel over the door, it still lit up the room enough to interfere with getting to sleep. Thankfully, the management turned off the colored lights outside the patio-side, otherwise it would've felt like trying to sleep at the circus! The Ugly: Although the sheets and mattress were comfortable, there were no true bed pillows. For our king-sized bed, there were three small, very firm pillows with covers matching the bedspread. They were not good pillows for sleeping, but the worst part was the scratchy covers. I realized the next morning that our traveling companions DID have bed pillows with appropriate pillowcases though. So if we ever return to River Side Hotel, I will definitely make sure to ask for proper bed pillows. Overall, our stay was really pretty good! The scratchy pillows were really the only bad thing, and next time I'll know to ask and not just assume that none would be available.
