Japan Baseball Journey | Tokyo Jingu Baseball Stadium

Meiji Jingu Stadium 📍 Location 3-1 Kasumigaoka-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo This stadium is the home field of the Japanese professional baseball team "Tokyo Yakult Swallows" and one of the oldest active professional baseball stadiums in Japan. It was built in 1926 and has been the birthplace of countless baseball stars. ⸻ 🚃 Transportation (from Shinjuku) 1. From Shinjuku Station, take the JR Chuo-Sobu Line (stops at every station) to Shinanomachi Station (approximately 5 minutes) 2. The stadium is about a 10-minute walk from Shinanomachi Station Alternatively, take the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line, get off at Gaiemmae Station, and walk about 5 minutes. If you want to visit the Omotesando area, you can consider this route. ⸻ 📝 Personal experience The first time I walked into Jingu Stadium, I felt really moved. The sense of history is different from that of modern stadiums. The old-fashioned stands, the angles at which sunlight shines in, and the sounds of waving towels and cheering sticks in the audience, each scene instantly puts you into the atmosphere of Japanese baseball. This time I watched a match of Tokyo Yakult Swallows. The home cheering was really fun. Everyone waved little umbrellas (yes, umbrellas!) and danced to the music. There were also various cheering songs at the end of each game. The uncles and aunties on the side were also very enthusiastic. Even if you are not familiar with the players, you will be infected by the atmosphere and keep clapping and cheering. I bought a free seat in the outfield seats. Although it was a bit far away, it was really fun to cheer with the home fans. I also bought a cheering umbrella as a souvenir. After the tour, you can go for a walk in the nearby Gaien Ginkgo trees or find a pub to eat skewers. It is very suitable for a half-day to a full-day trip.
