🏡 Wat Luang Khun Win is an ancient temple that was abandoned for nearly 700 years after the Burmese invasion of Chiang Mai. In 1954, Kruba Oonruen Suphatto, a disciple of Kruba Sriwichai, restored the temple to its former glory. 🙏 Legend has it that the Buddha once visited this area and met two Lua people, Khun Saap and Khun Saraming, who requested a hair relic for worship. They then built a stupa to enshrine the relic on a low hill, now known as Phra That Mon Pia. ⛰ The temple is located deep in the forest, far from any community, surrounded by lush greenery and various bird species. It remains pristine and untouched, relying solely on solar energy as there is no electricity or running water. Access to the temple is challenging, so it is recommended to use local transportation services. 🏕 Wat Luang Khun Win boasts stunning Lanna-style architecture amidst the cool and tranquil forest atmosphere. It serves as a residence for monks and novices and a meditation retreat for lay practitioners. Key attractions within the temple include: 🏠 A wooden ordination hall housing a 9-meter-tall standing Buddha statue in the "Walking Meditation" posture.
