I'm obsessed with the ancient buildings in Shanxi! Yong'an Temple is an ancient temple from the Yuan Dynasty facing south. The first thing you see when you enter the temple is the four powerful characters "Yong'an Zen Temple." The "Yuanjue Temple Pagoda" on the left side of the temple gate is the only dense eaves pagoda in Datong, adding a touch of mystery to Yong'an Temple. When you enter Yong'an Temple, you will see two courtyards with a strict layout and ancient trees surrounding the main hall, creating a solemn atmosphere. The main hall is a relic of the Yuan Dynasty, with a single-eave hipped roof covered with yellow glazed tiles. It is simple and elegant, and the solemnity of the hall is mesmerizing. Perhaps it is the unique charm of Yong'an Temple that makes people feel awe and want to get close. The four characters "Huxiao Longyin" on the back of the main hall are very powerful and imposing. These four characters are carved in relief on one side and in intaglio on the other, which is very special. (Relief carving is protruding.) The hall also preserves exquisite murals from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The main hall is designed with a reduced column method, making the space more spacious and bright. The murals not only depict the ten great kings of Buddhism but also the gods of Taoism, sages of all ages, and the shamanistic Eternal Heaven. The characters and stories of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism are cleverly integrated, which is rare.
