Chettinadu Mansion – An Authentic Heritage Palace

The place feels a bit dated, and tired, in desperate need of some facelift and restoration! LOCATION: The hotel is situated in Kanadukathan, a small village in Tamil Nadu's Chettinad region. It's an excellent base for exploring local attractions like other mansions, temples, and craft centers. However, its remote location means limited dining and entertainment options nearby. The peaceful surroundings appeal to those seeking a quiet retreat, but might feel isolating for others. DINE + DRINK: The in-house restaurant serves traditional Chettinad cuisine, known for its bold flavors and spices. The chef whips up authentic local dishes and home-style cooking. Vegetarian options are available, but the menu variety might be limited for extended stays. There's no bar on-site, and alcohol availability may be restricted due to local regulations. ROOM: We stayed in Room MEENAL, so this review is based on that; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; VIEW: There is No view as the room did not have very many windows; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting us to sleep; BATHROOM:Very dated and old world bathroom with a Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: Super Random Quality Toiletries, bring your own! FACILITIES: No Gym or pool on site, pure rural Chill! SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all our needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout-out to LALITH and RAJKUMAR who hosted us for dinner and drinks wonderfully! HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free Wi-Fi that works well all over the property, and the speed is OK! NO TV in the room!

It's not worth the price , facility is not good , rooms are having damp smell . There was electricity cut in night ,couldn't sleep at all. Bathroom is big in space but no proper shower or light inside . Overall it's super costly compare to price charged.

What a fantastic place. The amazing location is great for a gentle walk around the town. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The activities were great. Definitely do the cooking experience. Would definitely return. We used the pool which is a short walk from the hotel, but very refreshing. Great stay

Absolute heritage mansion with basic modern amenities. Rooms are medium sized . No TV , internet was bit slow (I think it's BSNL BB). 4G coverage also will be feeble. Only the one portion of mansion is open to public .Could have been better if they allowed access to whole property.Overall well maintained retaining the old charm& Glory. There is an in-house restaurant till night. Dishes are mostly catered to non spicy pallette(even though we requested spicy ) , you won't get that authentic taste as in the chettinad mess's outside kanadukathan. Staffs are really amiable .Bicycles available for roaming around(free) also they would arrange Bullock cart ride (chargeable) , a chettinad museum and virtual walkthrough of history (both we skipped) you can enjoy. Even though free visits to two other nearby mansions were mentioned by mansion staff ; those housekeepers were demanding 50₹ per head entry fee(would be a waste of time and money so we skipped).We visited athangudi palace. Parking is limited to 5cars . Street lights are scarce in the entire block ( park at your own risk outside premises). If you plan to stay in kanadukathan this is the only heritage option others are all reconstructed properties .

We stayed for a day in the Chettinad Mansion with family. A long time wish to stay in an Authentic Chettinadu Palace was fully satisfied - The property was glowing with historical glory - Probably the best location to be able to stay in Kanadukaathan and walkable to the popular Palace, temples and other heritage houses. - Impeccable cleanliness - A very warm hospitality and service made our stay personally exclusive - Rooms were cozy and warm with authentic decorations and furniture It was not just a lifestyle stay but was a lifetime experience. Had a great experience at the Chettinad Mansion.Traditional style building, still has modern facilities for the visitor's convenience. Special mention to the staffs , very pleasant and welcoming . Spacious bedrooms , dining area, authentic food, calm and quiet pool area,a private museum, the local village atmosphere etc were their other specialists. There were a number activities we could do like cycling , swimming, Bullock cart rides , visit to the palace etc.
