Mateus Boutique Hotel

Mateus Boutique Hotel was a real gem in all respects in the heart of Panaji in the famous Fontainhas area. Right from calling them direct and talking to the lady in charge of reservations and overall supervision of the place Mrs. Cleta Fernandes to the other three members onsite, the warmth, care and hospitality was impeccable going over and beyond the call of the hospitality industry. The place has been beautifully refurbished retaining the old world charm and giving it a classic and quiet guest house feel with the well annointed nine rooms as opposed to a modern multi room and busy hotel. The place has a quiet dignity and feel to it. Mrs. Fernandes, was an epitome of genuine hospitality. When she heard that I felt that one of the lights above the bathroom mirror was dim she followed up and had it changed. Mr. Ashpak, the Manager onsite was wonderful in his quite and helpful manner and very respectful and friendly. Surya, the housekeeping staff member was very good in his friendly manner. Krishna, the breakfast chef/housekeeping member was good and friendly too. The entire team made Mateus feel genuinely a home away from home. They all combinedly treated you like a close relative come home to them. Need I say more!

We stayed for 2 nights. On arrival, it was a bit odd as they didn't seem to have our reservation, even though they had a booking in our name!! Very odd! Eventually, it's all sorted! They took a copy of passports and visas (we're Brits). We'd booked a deluxe room. This was on the ground floor next to reception. The room was basic but very clean. Excellent AC, fan, shower, and bed. The curtains let in too much light. Unfortunately, in the morning, the noise from other rooms, especially those above us, and from reception, was just stupid loud. This will prevent us from staying again. Forget that they advertise an outdoor pool, its a pond! Green and awful! And annoyance during our stay was each time we saw a member of staff, they asked to see our passports and visas. At check-out, I'd finally had enough and gave it them again. They took more copies, just very annoying.
