Conquistador Palace

We had no idea this hotel was owned by the Porteguese tennis star Joao Sousa until we arrived and noticed the tennis theme. If you are a tennis fan, you will truly appreciate the many touches and tributes, and if you are not, you will still love this beautiful thoughtful hotel. This hotel is far more than your average top of the line boutique hotel. It is truly one of the loveliest hotels we have stayed at for this price point, or at five times this price pint. The level of attention to every detail is magnificent, as are the renovation choices in the palace. You can see the effort from start to finish documented, and thus appreciate the undertaking with attention to preservation. The rooms are named for the tennis tournaments, and are all beautiful and unique in different ways. Our room, Miami, was perfect, with tall windows, great light and gorgeous decor. The beds and linens are sublime, the furniture is art, the rooms are spotless and comfortable in every aspect. Beautiful bathrooms, top amenities, gorgeous original art in ever corner of the rooms and hotel - old and new mixed to complement. What makes it even more special is that it is family run, and the owner has chosen to give back to his hometown by preserving this bit of history with such love and care. The location is perfect for exploring this very charming town on foot. There is a modern and clean underground parking a block away, on the same street, very easy to access. Our only recommendation would be to put more of each item out for breakfast, as we felt like everyone was limited by very few slices of different food items, even though they were replenished. Beautiful set up for breakfast, but not as functional for efficiency of purpose.

Gorgeous hotel, completed renovated in historic building. Perfect location to explore Giumaraes. Absolutely wonderful breakfast. Best part was the staff. Unbelievably accommodating, I had to go to hospital for minor issue and they told me specifically which hospital and offered to go with me.

We stayed 2 nights at the Conquistador Palace to visit Guimaraes and relax from our long walks enjoying the pleasant garden and swimming pool listening to the carillons around. We literally cannot rave enough about this entire experience. Tania, Soraia, Helamia are incredible hosts. They are the kindest, most welcoming, most helpful hosts of all time! the Housekeeping is doing a great job... The Palace is amazing, The rooms, bars, lobby have been decorated with mix of contemporary and antique furniture. It is very elegant and refined… Congratulations to the interior designers……. We cannot rave enough about the great quality of the textile, in the room... Pleasures of the senses….Magnifique… Conquistador Palace, is THE place to stay in Guimaraes.

A wonderful hotel. The attention to detail, both for the premises and the service, really shows. The staff is passionate and professional. As there are only 14 rooms, so it feels that the staff is there just for you. We will definitely come back, even if we have no other reason to be in the area.

Most impressed with this accommodation. Big spacious room very comfortable. Quiet & handy. Tastefully renovated to retain it's past grandeur. Good breakfast & helpful friendly staff. Highly Recommended.

Fantastic place with very welcoming staff at the reception and kitchen. Service exemplary, tablecloth white and pristine. You are in a solid, stone looking palace and they make you feel like a king, especially during the breakfast when Portuguese delicacies keep coming. You are asked every night what time you wanted the breakfast. You do not need to ask to be helped, they simply help and do. Loved the chime of the nearby Church, a truly immersion in the Portuguese way of life. You can still sleep well, no noise overnight and opaque solid blinds make the nights very good.
