Palazzo del Verga

For us Palazzo Del Verga was a perfect place to stay! Right in the middle of Catania, close to all we wanted to visit, to many good restaurants and a market. The room is a perfect size for a short stay, offers a very comfortable bed (from which one can see the painted ceiling!) and the bathroom is fitted with everything you would want or need. Plus the room has a small charming balcony with table and chairs and provides coffee/tea and other breakfast items and some savoury snacks and water. Wonderful!

Staying at Verga’s apar**ent is thrilling on its own. The building has aged well. The facade, darkened partly by the ashes of Etna is very impressive. Rooms were renovated with great taste. Daily cleaning is provided. Hosts are very polite and helpful. The location is perfect, only minutes away from the Duomo. It’s a hidden gem.

Wonderful character building with good modern facilities. Perfectly located near Duomo Square with restaurants and bars with exceptional character. The hotel was set back from the street. You enter through huge wooden doors and then walk through a courtyard and up a set of stairs to reach the hotel. A notice on the building inside the courtyard with the hotel's name would have been nice. It is confusing. There was a receptionist at the front desk who spoke little english. The owner sent emails with information and instructions. There was no owner or manager on the premises overnight. Our room was off the "kitchen." A simple breakfast was available for purchase and we thought people would be outside our room door having breakfast. No one was there in the mornings. The hotel was actually convenient, near the Greek ruins, the Cathedral and was on the main street.

Very clean, great location, comfortable beds, well equipped bathroom. The contact with the owner was just great with recommendations for the stay in Catania. You can also have breakfast options if needed.

The directions we were given made it difficult to find . The access information we were given was incorrect First of all it is not a B&B they are serviced apar**ents on the first floor with no lift. Most communication is done via Whatsapp. Contacted owner to arrange transport to the airport, no response. The room was OK but could have been cleaner especially the shower . The location however was perfect for the city centre. There was no guest information. My prime concern there were no evacuation instructions in the event of a fire, one way in one way out, there was no obvious smoke or fire alarm.

This is a great little place! The location is excellent. Only a few blocks from the main square with many restaurants close by to enjoy. The unit is stocked with many nice little amenities like snacks and beverages to use. The room itself was very spacious with a fresco on the ceiling . That's why they're called art rooms. The host was very responsive and gave us many tips on restaurants and taxi service to the airport. I especially liked the little patio we could enjoy a glass of wine on after a long day of sightseeing and watch the city life go by. Great value for the money!

The host, accommodation and location were excellent. Pietro was very helpful and gave great tourist suggestions. The accommodation was in a great location to access many of Palermo’s attractions and street life. The balcony view was spectacular!

I booked 2 rooms at this hotel for an overnight stay on July 24th,one room for my wife and myself,the other for my daughter and her partner at a total cost of Euro 217. My daughter was notified late evening on 23rd July by Easyjet that her flight to Catania was cancelled due to a fire at Catania airport. I immediately contacted the hotel by email and notified them of the circumstances. The flight for myself and my wife was to Palermo and we were meant to be collected by car by my daughter to take us to Catania as we are both septuagenerians with limited mobility. . This was no longer possible and given that the temperature on the 24th was 47 degrees C with fires breaking out all over, there was no way we could have travelled to Catania. I contacted *********** ,who had arranged the original booking, advised them of the situation and asked could they intervene regarding compensation a the only response I had from the hotel was a request to fill in a survey re customer satisfaction. Booking .Com informed me that the Hotel wa unwilling to consider any compensation. I had chosen Palazzo del Verga because of the excellent reviews by previous travellers on Tripadvisor and Iam extremely disappointed that a hotel of this standing would not accept the extenuating circumstances leading to the cancellation.
