Guest and the City

Check in area was dim and disorganized. Wanted an exact time we would be there weeks in advance. This is difficult when traveling, and I expect a hotel to have a more flexible check in during business hours. The room was dirty. The sink in the bathroom was broken and wouldn’t drain with stains in the sink from not being cleaned well. Big, dark red stains on the sheets. Sat down on the bed and immediately noticed it sounded like a bag of potato chips. Pulled up the sheets and found a plastic bed bug cover. Looked closer at recent reviews, and found several reports of horrible bed bugs. We left immediately and went elsewhere. It has changed hands, and the amazing reviews are from the prior owner. Way overpriced for what it is now, even if there weren’t bed bugs. We just wasted money on this place. Horrible experience. Don’t waste your time and money; stay elsewhere.

We visited for my birthday as a couple following watching an episode of Four in a bed. I can since see ownership has changed hands a couple of times since. I'm definitely not one to write a bad review but I was so disappointed. Pros Staff were friendly enough and when we needed something responded eg an extra toilet roll Hotel is easy to find and very close to the Pier and other Brighton attractions Staff tried to make an effort after mentioning during booking it was a birthday trip Hotel arranged for us to buy parking passing for on street parking (£14 per day though...) Clean bedding Stained glassed window is nice Partial sea view Cons Room had a concerning smell- after leaving windows open for hours it was still overwhelming. Either the switched off fridge left in the room, stale wee or from many guests smoking in the room. Room wasn't cleaned to average hotel standards & a lot of wear & tear eg stain marks in shower base, dirt in sink, very stained toilet bowl Room has seen better days, marks on wall and a random hole in the laminate floor No milk provided with tea tray (not even UHT capsules) Room was dusty on bench in enclosed balcony and on the rails leading up the stairs Reception room was chaos, duct tape over the door lock, bags and clutter everywhere. Very unprofessional. For the birthday effort, a staff member left us a card, a hand drawn sign saying happy birthday and a dirty/second hand bottle of mini prosecco that had clearly been left out in the sun and was years old (as some had evaporated!)ps prosecco bottle to the right is one I brought with me, left is the one from the hotel No proper room light, so just a variation of lamps/small wall light in the room All in all, I would not return and was in two minds to request our money back mid stay but reluctantly stayed put due to the effort/cost to find somewhere else. For just shy of £250 for two night and car parking for two days, I would recommend definitely booking somewhere else.

I loved my stay here — the location is ideal (steps away from the pier, but not on a particularly noisy street), the service really generous and attentive, and the space is very clean. I took a loft room with a shared bathroom, which is one of the more affordable options.

The room had a really comfy bed, the balcony looked out at a beautiful sea view, had an great ensuite shower (top pressure!) and easy check in system, plus wonderful staff. Couldn't be better, highly recommend! ＜3

Yes, as many earlier reviewers have mentioned, the location is great, the bed is comfy and we had no serious complaints about the room itself. The problem is the lack of hospitality. Earlier reviewers mentioned the hosts and how welcoming they were, but this place has changed hands. Don’t expect to feel welcomed. I had arranged to drop off our luggage before check-in so that we could go for lunch without dragging our suitcases around town but when we arrived at noon, in the rain, we found the whole place locked up and no one answering the bell. There is no longer any food served at all — not even a continental breakfast although earlier reviews have photos of full breakfasts. The front “office” is shabby and the a**osphere is very unprofessional. When our room key stopped working, there was no one on site to assist us. As another reviewer said, new owners are benefitting from earlier great reviews that certainly don’t match the current experience. And yes, you are asked to pay in full up front.

The room is very compact, but clean, modern and everything you need. Comfy bed and powerful shower. Sandy was very helpful and accommodating, we arrived a bit early but were able to check in and were lucky to be able to park on road outside, with the purchased permit. Would recommend.

We stayed here for two nights on the ground floor. The room was small but had everything we needed and as we were planning on doing more exploring than sleeping than we were happy! There was coffee etc in the room and water and toiletries. We needed more milk and the host was more than happy to help! Room was clean and parking was easy with the permits available from the hotel. The hotel was in the best position for walking everywhere and right by the seafront!

I stayed at guest and city this weekend. Lovely clean rooms, everything we needed. The hotel was close to the beach and close to the bars and shops. Had a lovely time here and will be going back soon. Thank you sandy who is a brilliant and welcoming host. Thank you
