I gave The Trail 4 stars because Management did everything they could to accommodate me, but they fell short. I am writing this review to warn others who have MCS or fragrance allergies. I have MCS and this place came recommended to me under its former name, The Topia. Please be advised that when ownership changed hands, standards for non-toxic products also changed. I spoke to the housekeeper and she said she only cleans with white vinegar, but I was reacting to various surfaces she touched, like the bedding. Also, my breakfast dishes had residual fragrances on them. After some investigating, I realized the kitchen had scented dish soap with D-Limonene and Mrs. Meyers hand soap which contains the ingredient "fragrance." I realized that if staff and guests were washing their hands with Mrs. Meyer's soap, they are transferring fragrances to everything they touch. If you have mild MCS, you might be okay here. They do indeed use a lot of unscented products. I verified that the laundry detergent was Seventh Generation (fragrance free) and I did notice a small bottle of unscented Dr. Bronner's Castile soap in the kitchen. I will say they're on the right track with great intentions but I still cannot recommend this lodging for anyone with MCS. Unfortunately, The Trail does not have a policy about the products that other guests bring in or use during their stay. When I arrived the first night, a guest in the room next to me was wearing so much cologne that the scent made its way into my room. The management moved me to two different rooms in effort to help me get away from the irritant. They also offered me a partial refund for my visit. I am grateful that they did their best, but I won't be returning. This is not the place for you if you have moderate to extreme sensitivities. However, if you're looking for a cute, fun artsy place to take some good IG pics, this is it!
