The Great Buddha Temple is located in the suburbs of Jinghong City, the state capital of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, and is built according to the national AAAA-level scenic spot standards. The Great Buddha Temple was restored and rebuilt on the original site of the ancient royal monastery of the Yuan Dynasty, the "Jingpiao Buddha Temple", which was built by a king named Bolong in the history of the Yuan Dynasty in memory of the deceased princess Nansha Weibian.
