The birthplace of China's first red wine, Changyu Wine Culture Museum

The three major red wines in China are Yantai Changyu, Beijing Longhui and Jilin Tonghua. Changyu is considered to be China's first red wine and brandy brand, founded in 1892, and it is also China's earliest wine cellar. When I went there last year, it was the brand’s 131st anniversary. You must visit it when you come to Yantai. It is a famous local attraction and landmark. The museum is by the sea and the ticket price is 78 RMB. There is a modern exhibition hall in front of you where you can see some old artifacts of the winery and an introduction to its development history. Half of the museum is a new building, and the other half is a European-style building of the old winery. Then you go down to the wine cellar. It’s quite cool inside. The century-old wine cellar was built between 1894 and 1905 and took 11 years to complete. The earliest winemaker was Baron Babo, vice-consul of Yantai of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, who brewed China's first bottle of red wine in 1899 and the first bottle of brandy in 1914. It also won the gold medal at the Panama-Pacific Exposition in 1915, and there were many valuable wine barrels in it. The largest one is a century-old wine barrel king, which is really a big wine barrel. After going up to the wine cellar, you can use your ticket to buy white and red wine. You can also fill a bottle of Changyu brandy by yourself, which has a rich fruity aroma. Overall it’s pretty good!
