Haoyue Garden

#AprilGoodDestinations2025 Haoyue Garden in Xiamen's Gulangyu Scenic Area is a memorial sculpture park built to commemorate the national hero Zheng Chenggong. It is located on the Fudingyan beach at the southeast end of Gulangyu and covers an area of ​​about 20,000 square meters. The name is taken from Zheng Chenggong's poem "I miss you so much that I can't sleep, the bright moon shines through the white curtains", which expresses the emperor's respect for the hero and his deep longing for his compatriots in Taiwan. The core landscape of the park is the giant granite statue of Zheng Chenggong standing on Fuding Rock. It is 15.7 meters high and weighs 1,617 tons. It is carved from 625 pieces of "Quanzhou White" granite and is one of the largest statues of historical figures in China. The statue complements the sword stone and seal stone in the sea, which is magnificent. The park also features a bronze group sculpture titled "Rattan Shield to Drive Away the Enemies," which vividly recreates the historical scene of Zheng Chenggong leading his troops to the east to drive out the Dutch and recover Taiwan. In addition, the North and South Stele Galleries display Zheng Chenggong's poems and comments from later generations, while the Micro-carving Exhibition Hall is themed on resisting the Qing Dynasty and recovering Taiwan, and houses thousands of art treasures. Haoyue Garden combines the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty with the natural landscape of the seaside. The blue glazed tiles, stone gates, stone steps and other elements, together with the beaches, reefs and green trees, form a magnificent picture. The park is open in winter and summer. In winter (October 1st to May 31st of the following year), the opening hours are 8:00-17:30, and in summer, the opening hours are extended to 18:00. Visitors can walk about 5 minutes from Gulangyu Ferry Terminal to arrive, or buy a combined ticket (90 yuan) that includes Sunlight Rock, Shuzhuang Garden and other attractions. As one of the cultural landmarks of Gulangyu Island, Haoyue Garden, with its fusion of history, art and nature, has become an important attraction for experiencing the heroic spirit and southern Fujian style.
