Time stood still in Grafton Ghost Town, Utah

Grafton Is a small Ghost Town just south of Zion National Park in Utah, I have always been fascinated by the idea of a ghost town so we made a quick stop on the way to the national park. The ghost town is on google maps and is easy to get to, the last five minutes of the journey is off road but the road is very wide and east to drive on. As you enter the area on your immediate left is the graveyard, further down the road is the small town itself. The town consists of about 6 buildings including a church, the Grafton Preservation society has done a good job maintaining the area and you are able to enter most of the buildings (The church was closed on our visit) We entered the buildings that we could and took in the area, it was fascinating to see how life would have been back then. The town was founded in 1859 and survived against the weather, native Americans and disease until 1944. For me the most interesting part was the graveyard, there is detailed information about the people interred there and it gives you a good understanding of how hard it was to survive in those days. There was a high infant mortality rate, deaths from accidents and of course fights with the native American population.
