Why Venice Never Sinks

🌟Burano, also known as the Rainbow Island of Italy, is a small island in the Venetian Lagoon, famous for its brightly colored houses and charming atmosphere. 🌟To get to Burano from the main island of Venice, you can take a vaporetto (water bus). Take the ACTV Line 12 vaporetto from the Fondamenta Nuove stop in Venice, and you'll arrive in about 45 minutes. 🌟The houses on the island are painted in a variety of vibrant colors, such as pink, sky blue, bright purple, and sunny yellow, creating a dazzling spectacle. 🌟Since its founding in the 5th century, Venice has been sinking at a rate of over one centimeter per century, yet it still stands. The foundations of Venetian buildings are primarily composed of thousands of wooden piles driven into the ground and submerged in water. These piles are densely packed into the lagoon bed, forming a unique foundation. Before using the piles, Venetians treated them with preservatives to extend their lifespan. On top of the piles, a supporting layer about 50 cm thick, made of several layers of wooden planks or stone, was placed to further reinforce the foundation.
