We stopped by Mui Kee at Orchard for a comforting lunch, and it really hit the spot in that slow, satisfying way only a good bowl of congee can. The place has a clean, modern Cantonese tea house vibe, but the food still feels deeply rooted in tradition. I went for the Scholar’s Porridge, and it came out steaming hot and perfectly smooth—silky texture, deeply flavorful broth, and topped with slices of pork and preserved egg. It’s the kind of dish that feels nourishing without being heavy. Every spoonful just warms you up from the inside. The century egg was a classic side—rich, creamy yolk and that earthy depth that pairs so well with the plain porridge. And of course, you can’t have porridge without you tiao. Their version was golden, crispy, and still warm, perfect for tearing and dunking into the bowl. That crisp-against-smooth combo never gets old. We also ordered the Chinese-style raw fish, which came dressed in sesame oil, soy sauce, and fresh onions.
