Redhill’s Best Kept Secret: The Living Room Café and Its Soulful Local Dishes

#springitinerary Tucked away beneath an HDB block in the quiet Redhill neighbourhood, The Living Room Café lives up to its name — it truly feels like stepping into someone’s cosy living space. With homely vibes, warm service, and a menu full of hearty local fare, this unassuming eatery has become a beloved spot for nearby residents and anyone who stumbles upon it. What We Ate & Loved: Curry Chicken with Bread This was comfort in a bowl. The curry had a rich, lemak (coconutty) base — not overly spicy, but deeply aromatic with hints of rempah spices and curry leaves. The chicken was tender and soaked up all that gravy goodness. Instead of rice, we had ours with soft bread, perfect for dipping and mopping up every drop of curry. A nostalgic, kampung-style dish done right. Nasi Lemak Simple yet satisfying. The rice was infused with a gentle coconut fragrance, and paired with classic elements like crispy ikan bilis, peanuts, a perfectly fried egg, and sambal that leaned more sweet than spicy. It's the kind of plate that brings back school canteen memories — nothing fancy, just familiar and fulfilling. Chee Cheong Fun + Yam Cake Combo A standout! This duo was clearly a crowd favourite — generous portions of silky chee cheong fun drenched in sweet sauce, paired with thick-cut yam cake that was dense and packed with flavour. Topped with fragrant dried shrimp and fried shallots, the combo hit all the right notes: soft, savoury, sweet, and umami. Ideal for breakfast or a light lunch. Vibe & Setting The Living Room Café isn’t air-conditioned, but that doesn’t stop loyal diners from returning. The charm lies in its laid-back, old-school atmosphere. There’s a sense of community here — the aunties behind the counter greet you like family, and regulars chat freely over kopi and kaya toast. It’s one of those places where time seems to slow down, and food tastes better because it’s served with heart. Final Thoughts The Living Room Café @ Redhill may be low-key, but it delivers big on flavour and warmth. Whether you're popping in for a traditional breakfast or looking for a comforting plate of curry chicken, this is the kind of local gem that keeps you coming back. Affordable, nostalgic, and made with love — just the way local food should be.
