Step into a paradise on earth～Dongtan Wetland is so beautiful

Many people in Shanghai probably don’t know that Chongming Dongtan is a World Natural Heritage site; it’s so low-key! In early autumn, thanks to a friend’s introduction, we explored the Dongtan Wetland Park bird sanctuary, which is not open to tourists, and truly experienced the charm of this hidden paradise. Currently, there is only one tunnel and bridge connecting Changxing Island and Chongming Island from downtown Shanghai, so it’s best not to visit on weekends or holidays—you’ll get stuck in traffic beyond imagination! But setting aside the traffic issues, Dongtan is really stunning. Sitting here, you can quietly enjoy migratory birds soaring freely and find a moment of peace amid the bustling city. If you come with a few friends, you can also stay an extra day to get closer to nature and breathe fresh air at Changxing Island Countryside Park or Dongping National Forest Park.
