Shanghai | Fotografiska sees Martin Parr

Fotografiska is a global center for video art from Stockholm, Sweden, bringing together the legendary works of international photography masters and the creations of homegrown avant-garde video artists, offering carefully curated exhibitions, events, music parties, salon themed lectures and other cultural events to redefine new experiences of contemporary video art. My favorite of this exhibition is Martin Parr’s Brief and Brief , an outstanding British photographer known for his humor, irony and keen observation, whose works deeply reflect social realities and criticize social norms and consumer culture. Containing 11 important series, the exhibition features precious images taken by Parr during his first visit to China in 1985 and his second visit in the late 1990s, looking back at the multiple facets of Chinese society under his lens. These works not only document the social changes in China, but also demonstrate Parr’s keen insight into multiculturalism.  Other exhibitions such as The Wildness of the Heart and Renko Kawauchi’s solo exhibition are worth stopping by.
