A Town Shaped by the Camino de Santiago

This small town is deeply influenced by the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. It serves as a transit point for pilgrims traveling from the Somport Pass and Roncesvalles. Among its historical architectural heritage, the most notable is the Santiago Cathedral, built in the 12th century and later expanded. It features a beautiful Romanesque main façade influenced by Moorish style, a Latin cross floor plan, and star-shaped ribbed vaults. The Crucifijo Church, a late 12th-century Romanesque structure, was expanded in the 14th century. It was founded by the Knights Templar who resided in the area. Other highlights include its large medieval five-arched bridge, the 14th-century San Pedro Church, and the Santo Espíritu Commandery Monastery.
