A town filled with fortress towers

A journey to the Spanish Pyrenees ~ Navarre Autonomous Community The Baztan Valley capital region consists of fifteen villages scattered across the green hills of the Atlantic Pyrenees. The center of Elizondo is located on both banks of the Baztan River and features many noble buildings, such as manor houses and small palaces. The most iconic ones include the Arizkunenea Palace and the Town Hall, as well as the beautiful Bertiz neighborhood. Due to numerous border conflicts in the early Middle Ages, fortress towers are the most common structures in the valley. Irurita boasts many ancestral homes with towers and medieval towers, such as Dorrea or Jauregizuria. Elbete is home to Baroque-style palaces like Jarola and Azkoa (17th century), while Arizkun features the Ursua Tower. After visiting the Baztan Valley, you can continue to Amaiur/Maya, a town with numerous ancestral homes, such as Arretxea (16th century) and Arriada (17th century). Additionally, two medieval towers, Zubiria and Jauregizar in Arraiotz, form part of the defensive architecture of the Pyrenees Valley.
