Free Millennium Cliff Carvings in the Bustling City 80% Missed!

Recently, the popularity of 'Black Myth: Wukong' not only brought attention to Shanxi but also reignited interest in ancient architecture across the country. This thousand-year-old cliff carving located in a little-known small city in southern Sichuan seems to have been missed by many outsiders. - 🪨 Xianglong Mountain Cliff Carvings 📍 No. 3 Xianglong Road, Shizhong District, Neijiang City, Sichuan Province - ☑️ The carvings began in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the Song Dynasty, and continued through the Ming and Qing Dynasties. They are part of the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units in Neijiang City. These lifelike stone Buddha statues are located on a cliff wall about 206 meters long and 9 meters wide on Xianglong Mountain. There are currently 131 niches (places) and 24 inscribed stone carvings, making it the largest preserved Tang and Song stone carving area in Neijiang City. - ☑️ As you ascend the steps, the first thing that catches your eye is the very exquisite Thousand-Hand Guanyin statue. Although some parts have been naturally weathered or artificially damaged over the millennia, it is still very impressive upon close inspection. In addition, there are also Tang Dynasty Amitabha sitting Buddha, Buddhist story pictures, etc. - ☑️ Besides the Buddha statues, there are also nine cliff inscriptions from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China period, featuring a variety of calligraphy styles including seal, clerical, regular, and cursive scripts. Among them is the early re-inscription of the Ming Dynasty poem stele by the famous painter Zhang Daqian. - 🙋🏻‍♀️ Travel Tips: 1️⃣ There are direct trains from Chengdu to Neijiang. After getting off, take a taxi to the site. 2️⃣ Open for free from 9:00-12:00 in the morning and 13:00-17:00 in the afternoon. 3️⃣ The site is free, but if you go late, you can only view it through the fence. 4️⃣ The place is not large, and the visit time depends on your interest in stone carving art.
