Wat Phra Chedi Sawlang

Wat Phra Chedi Sao Lang is located in Tambon Ton Thong Chai, 5 kilometers north of the city along the Lampang-Chae Hom road. It is a large temple in the middle of a rice field. The temple grounds are shady with large trees. "Sao" means 'twenty' and "lang" means 'body'. Wat Phra Chedi Sao Lang means the temple with 20 chedis. This temple is an important religious site in Lampang Province. It was built in ancient times and is valuable both in terms of history and antiquities. Evidence from the excavation of amulets from the Hariphunchai period at the chedi suggests that the temple was built more than a thousand years ago. Interesting things to see in the temple include Phra That Sao Chedi, which is a mixture of Lanna and Burmese art. Beside the chedis is a small chapel housing a bronze Buddha image in the meditation posture, Chiang Saen style. The locals call it "Phra Chao Tan Jai." #WatChediSaoLang
