Free admission to visit historic sites! Kaohsiung City Memory Hall by the Love River

This building located on the banks of the Love River was the "Kaohsiung City Hall" during the Japanese colonial period, and later the Kaohsiung City Government. After the city government moved in 1992, it was transformed into the Kaohsiung Museum of History in 1998, becoming the first history museum operated by a local government in Taiwan, and giving this imperial crown-style building a new life. It was announced as a city-designated historic site in 2004. The building adopts a Japanese-Western eclectic style. The exterior is based on light green concrete, integrating the central main tower and the symmetrical towers on both sides, the four-cornered spire and the glazed tile roof. It retains the octagonal windows, peach-shaped windows and stone lanterns that are characteristic of the Japanese colonial period. It is an important witness in the city's memory. 🛕 Architectural highlights and historical reincarnation • Imperial crown-style architecture: Built in 1938, it is represented by the imperial crown-style architecture under Japanese nationalism, integrating Western structures and oriental roofs, and has become one of the few preserved buildings in Kaohsiung. • From political center to cultural venue: The transformation of the role of the old city government symbolizes that Kaohsiung has moved from "administrative drive" to "cultural orientation", becoming a new base for urban historical narratives  📚 Exhibitions and collections: Kaohsiung Local Story Collection Room • The museum houses more than 8,000 cultural relics, including local historical materials, folk objects and memories of post-war life, showing the development of Kaohsiung from a fishing village to a modern metropolis . • Regular exhibitions include local industries, social events and cultural anthropology.
