🚶‍♀️ Jing’an Walking Tour — Heritage & Culture in the Heart of Shanghai

🛕 1. Jing’an Temple (静安寺) Start your day at the iconic Jing’an Temple, a golden-roofed Buddhist temple with a history of over 1,700 years. Step inside to see massive bronze bells and serene halls, right in the middle of bustling West Nanjing Road. There’s many good cafes and eateries there too so you can have your breakfast or brunch there before working off the calories at the nearby park. ⏳ 1 hour. ⸻ 🌳 2. Jing’an Park (静安公园) Just across the street, stroll through Jing’an Park, a green oasis with sculptures, lawns, and shaded paths. It’s also a great spot for people-watching — locals practice tai chi and kids play around the central lawn. ⏳ 30–45 minutes ⸻ 🏠 3. Mao Zedong’s Former Residence (1920 毛泽东旧居) Continue a short walk to Mao’s Former Residence on Anyi Road, where Mao Zedong lived briefly in 1920. The small museum exhibits photos, documents, and personal belongings from his early revolutionary years in Shanghai. ⏳ 20 minutes ⸻ 🕍 4. Shanghai Exhibition Center (上海展览中心) Walk south along West Nanjing Road to the Shanghai Exhibition Center, a striking Soviet-style building built in the 1950s as the “Sino-Soviet Friendship Building.” Admire its golden spire, grand architecture, and the contrast with modern skyscrapers around it. ⏳ 30 minutes. Longer if you are visiting any exhibition there. ⸻ 🏰 5. Moller Villa (衡山马勒别墅) Head west to Moller Villa, a whimsical mansion built in the 1930s by a Swedish businessman. With turrets and a fairytale design, it feels like a slice of Europe in Shanghai. Today, it’s a hotel and restaurant — perfect for a coffee stop. ⏳ photography only (longer if dining) ⸻ 🏘 6. Zhangyuan (张园) End the tour at Zhangyuan, a beautifully restored shikumen neighborhood that once was the social center of 19th-century Shanghai. Now it’s filled with boutique shops, cafés, and cultural spaces, making it the perfect finale to your walk. ⏳ 2-4 hours. Longer if dining. ⸻ ✨ Tips for Your Walk • Total distance: about 5–6 km, easy to do in one day. • Best time: late morning start, so you end at Zhangyuan for tea or evening meals and drinks. • Wear comfy shoes — you’ll be walking on both busy shopping streets and quiet lanes. #mytraveldiary #chinatravel #shanghai #jingan #walkingtour #heritage #张园 #静安寺 #毛泽东旧居 #马勒别墅
