The "Extinction and Rebirth" exhibition at the Hong Kong Science Museum's Paleontology Gallery displays precious animal and plant fossils

The Hong Kong Science Museum’s new permanent exhibition hall, the “Paleontology Hall”, has the opening exhibition theme of “Extinction and Rebirth”, introducing the various challenges and evolution of life on Earth since the Ediacaran period 635 million years ago. The exhibition will be open to the public from September 15. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition hall on September 14, the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kevin Yeung, said that the "Extinction. Rebirth" exhibition is one of the projects in the Hong Kong Science Museum's permanent exhibition hall renewal plan. It hopes to enable the public to understand the history and changes of the earth's ecology, while reflecting on the challenges that today's human development brings to the survival of living things. Mr Yeung said that museums are very important to the overall cultural development of Hong Kong. They can bring rich knowledge to the public and attract tourists to visit. Last year's Policy Address proposed adding four more museums. The Government will also draw on overseas experience and Hong Kong's needs to review the overall development direction of museums in the future. This exhibition is divided into six major exhibition areas, introducing the five major mass extinction events that have occurred in the long geological history of the Earth, and will display more than one hundred sets of precious animal and plant fossils from various periods. Rare exhibits include a true mammoth fossil from the Ice Age that is over three meters tall, the most complete Deinonychus fossil ever unearthed, a one-to-one replica of the jaw fossils of prehistoric marine predatory fish such as Xiphias, Megalodon and Dunkleosteus, and an Indonesian camphor wood fossil that is two to four million years old. In addition, there are lifelike mechanical dinosaurs and various interesting interactive exhibits that introduce knowledge about fossil excavation, prehistoric environment and the evolution of species. The exhibition ends with the message that the Earth is facing the sixth mass extinction crisis, calling on humans to contribute to wildlife conservation and environmental protection. Other guests attending the ceremony included Ms. Elizabeth Chung, President of Corporate Experience of Chinachem Group, Dr. Wang Zhangwei, Director of Vegasoul Capital Management (Asia) Limited, Professor So Chang-tak, Chairman of the Museum Advisory Committee, Professor Chen Longsheng, Expert Advisor of the Hong Kong Science Museum, Director of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) Mr. Liu Ming-kwong, and Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Science Museum Mr. Li Wei-kwan. #extinctionrebirth #hongkongsciencemuseum #goodplacestodischarge #discharge #goodplacesforfamily #holidayfamilytravel #localtravel #goodplacesinhongkong #goodplacesonweekdays #goodplacesonweekends #goodplaces #localfamilytravel #familytravel #parents #familyactivities #check-inattractions #check-in #hklifestyle #hkdaily #hkiger #hkig #hongkong #hk #instadaily #travelhk #discoverhk #explorehongkong #exploringhongkong #discoverhongkong #awesomehongkong
