Glenfinnan Viaduct Travelogue｜Step into the Magical World of Hogwarts

This ancient railway bridge spans a lush green valley with 21 arch-shaped piers. Since its completion in 1901, it has remained operational. For many fans, this is one of the iconic scenes from the Harry Potter films where the "Hogwarts Express" crosses, serving as a gateway between reality and magic. We specifically arrived around 10 a.m. to witness the legendary "Jacobite Steam Train" slowly passing over the viaduct. As steam billowed and the train whistle echoed through the valley, the moment was indescribably breathtaking. It felt as if Harry and Ron were truly peering excitedly out of the carriage windows, ready to embark on a new school term. Near the bridge, there’s a scenic trail that takes about 20 minutes to reach the best photography spot, offering a panoramic view of the viaduct and the backdrop of Loch Shiel. With a gentle breeze and shimmering lake surface, it was hard to tell whether we were in reality or a movie scene. After enjoying the view, we also visited the Glenfinnan Monument, which commemorates the 1745 Jacobite uprising led by Prince Charles.
