【Genoa】Cathedral of San Lorenzo: Ancient Roman ruins, completed in the 17th century

The Cattedrale di San Lorenzo is a Roman Catholic church in Genoa, Italy, the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Genoa. The striped buildings are the easiest to recognize and are visited by many tourists. Excavations in the area beneath and in front of the church have revealed Roman-era walls and pavements, as well as pre-Christian sarcophagi. So it is speculated that it was built in the 5th or 6th century. The carvings on the pillars and beams are very delicate, and the stone lions at the door resemble those of HSBC Bank. After several reconstructions and revisions, the facade was completed between 1307 and 1312, and the interior colonnade has been rebuilt to this day. The Romanesque building was kept in its original state, with the addition of murals with religious themes. Construction of the cathedral was completed in the 17th century.
