Florence, the capital city of the Tuscany region in Italy, is known for many things, including its outstanding art, Renaissance architecture and distinguished cultural heritage. One of the most famous landmarks in Florence is the magnificent Gothic style Duomo Cathedral, formally the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower, with its massive red dome dominating the city's skyline.
The Duomo Florence is considered to be the largest masonry structure in the world. Over four million bricks weighing more than forty thousand tonnes were used to construct the cathedral as per the designs submitted by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1296.

A Day Exploring Florence on Foot in Italy 🇮🇹
Exploring Florence by foot was a journey through art, history, and culture. I started my day at the iconic Duomo, marveling at its intricate facade and climbing to the top for panoramic city views. From there, I wandered through cobblestone streets, discovering hidden piazzas and artisan shops. The Uffizi Gallery was a highlight, where I spent hours admiring masterpieces by Botticelli and Michelangelo. Crossing the Ponte Vecchio, I enjoyed the charm of its historic jewelry shops and stunning river views. Every step in Florence felt like a walk through history, with beautiful architecture and art at every turn.

Alright listen, I feel it helps to know or be prepared for somethings. In this very case, the queuing to get inside. It's been only a couple of months since my visit to the uffizi and I'm always looking up or trying to find hacks to make things easy or skip ques. But that didn't work at the uffizi. It's a popular spot. Even during the off season that we travelled, there were plenty of art enthusiasts visiting the uffizi. While, most of the exhibits are from the renaissance area. And if thats not your thing, you're still going to like it. So naturally 3-4 hours to see things nicely and with the queuing it's likely to eat up half or more of the day. I'm saying this so you can prepare accordingly and not be all restless about wasting your day cos you only have a 1 or 2 days for Florence
As mentioned I went there during the off season and the entrance fee was practically half of what we paid when visiting during peak season the previous time. Might have been close to 15 American dollars. I still can't convert that well in euros. If you have a fixed plan and will most likely visit the uffizi on a certain day. Go ahead and book the tickets online. This will be a shorter que than most who come here without a fixed plan and buy at site. You might pay about 5 bucks more for booking on the website but it's worth it.
Know what's even better? Spend on a guided tour. You wont have to que and wait. Further, you'll understand and appreciate the artworks better. Compared to the Vatican or the louvre, you're still not paying much. Plus you get to see Raphael, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and many more all within a few steps of one another.
In terms of getting here, let me tell you it's a lovely area to walk around. It’s located near Piazza della Signoria, which is home to Palazzo Vecchio. The back of the Uffizi is across from the Arno river, which is visible from inside the gallery. I really enjoyed my stroll in the vicinity. #bokstoresandgalleries #100waysoftravel #florence #italy #artlovers
The Centuries-Old Monastery of Florence - Santa Maria Novella (SMN)
Originally a monastery, SMN became a fragrance workshop in 1612 and is the oldest perfumery pharmacy in Europe, still in operation today.
More than a pharmacy, SMN is like a museum. As you enter the classical and elegant portico, you are greeted with decorations, furniture, and paintings that are full of medieval style. It's so beautiful, no wonder tourists visiting Florence make it a point to pilgrimage there.
It never offers discounts in Florence, but tourists can get a tax refund when they purchase (12% on amounts over 70 Euro).

The sunset to die for, that's Florence!
During the journey around Europe, I have never seen a city's sunset as passionate and free as Florence.
People on the steps overlook the high dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the street performers' singing gathers strangers, people enjoy music and sunset, passion and revelry.
That night, the bright moon was in the sky in Florence, and people would spend their lives in romance.

Outstanding view of the Cathedral
#summerbreak
Fantastic view here just right across the most popular cathedral in the world. Florence gets extremely busy and full of tourist especially in summer time that you may only hear people speak in English due to the high volume of tourism.
The whole tower it is secured upstairs, so pics can be taken but they will always have bar due to the high risk of falling.
There are a lot of narrow steps to climb, so you may want to keep that in mind.
Best time to go will be during the month of May, June or September, avoid July and August due to crowds and heat.
Place to eat: Pochetta sandwiches is a must here! fresh delicious and daily specials are available 😃
Breathtaking view from Duomo di Firenze

Under the Tuscan Sun in Florence
I was immediately enchanted with Florence, and it quickly my favorite place in Italy. Luckily, I had a lovely airbnb host who sat down and listed the best sites and museums to visit, where and when to see the sunset, and where to get great tripe (Mercato Centrale) and roast pork sandwich. Florence is so rich in art, architecture, history, food - I had a great four days there, but my one regret was that I didn’t get tickets early enough to visit the top of the Duomo or the Uffizi (definitely book in advance).
