It was declared the 6th national park in Thailand. It covers an area of ​​482.4 square kilometers, covering Chom Thong District, Mae Chaem District, Mae Wang District, and Doi Lor Subdistrict, Chiang Mai Province. Doi Inthanon was originally called "Doi Luang" or "Doi Ang Ka". Doi Luang comes from its very large size. The villagers therefore called it "Doi Luang" (Luang: in northern dialect, meaning big). There is a story about Doi Ang Ka that about 300 meters west of the peak of the mountain, there is a pond that looks like a basin. Many flocks of crows often go to play in the water at this pond. Therefore, they called it "Ang Ka" and the large mountain was called "Doi Ang Ka". However, some sources say that the word "Ang Ka" actually comes from the Karen language, meaning "big". Therefore, the word "Doi Ang Ka" means a large mountain. Doi Inthanon In the past, the forests in the north were under the control of various rulers. During the reign of King Inthawichayanon, the last ruler of Chiang Mai, he placed great importance on forests, especially the forests in the Doi Luang area. He ordered that if he died, some of his ashes would be taken up to build a stupa and enshrined on the mountain. Therefore, this mountain was called "Doi Inthanon". However, some sources say that the reason Doi Luang was called Doi Inthanon was because it was a way to honor the ruler, so it was named after the word "Doi Luang", which was the same name as Doi Luang in Chiang Dao District. However, later, a German came to survey and measure, and it was found that Doi Luang or Doi Ang Ka in Mae Chaem District was higher than Doi Luang in Chiang Dao District, so the name was changed to avoid overlap. And this mountain is called "Doi Inthanon". Doi Inthanon National Park was originally a part of "Doi Inthanon National Reserved Forest". Later, it was surveyed and established as one of the fourteen forests that the government has operated as a national park. At first, the Royal Forest Department proposed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives define the area of ​​Doi Inthanon National Park as 1,000 sq. km. or approximately 625,000 rai. But because many communities lived in the area before, a new survey was conducted and the areas where the people had lived before and were expected to have problems in the future were set aside. Therefore, the area to be declared as Doi Inthanon National Park was 270 sq. km. or approximately 168,750 rai. The announcement was dated October 2, 1972, and on June 13, 1978, the government announced another area of ​​482.4 sq. km. Chom Thong District, Mae Chaem District, Mae Wang District and Doi Lor Sub-district have an elevation above sea level of 400-2,565.3341 meters, making it the highest mountain in Thailand. For the purpose of designating land to be a national park, according to the National Park Act of 1961, Chapter 1, Section 6, as follows: "When the government sees fit to designate an area of ​​land with an interesting natural condition to remain in its original natural condition in order to preserve it for the benefit of the people's education and enjoyment, it has the authority to do so by proclaiming a royal decree.
