The Iconic Rainbow Stairs of Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur

If you have any form of social media then you’ve seen this place, the rainbow steps are becoming an influencer icon of Malaysia. The Batu caves are a fascinating Hindu temple complex north of Kuala Lumpur. Honestly the place blew my mind, and even if you’re in the city for a day it’s something you can and should do! It has its own metro stop ‘Batu Caves’ but the train isn’t very frequent, my advice is to get a grab taxi to the temples and get the train back. It opens around 6/7 am and the entry is free, I advise getting there as early as possible to beat the crowds and the heat! I got there for 7:30 and it was relatively quiet, just lots of monkeys and pigeons! The main stairs and cave are free, you can pay extra for some of the smaller temples but when I went most of the extra places were closed (September 2024) A few tips! ❗️Dress appropriately it is a temple! No short skirts or shorts, cover shoulders and knees. ❗️The monkeys can be very aggressive and territorial, especially protecting the babies. I saw a lot of people trying to take selfies with them and the monkeys do attack if you get too close! ❗️arrive early and get a taxi there, you can take the train back to KL Sentral ❗️Be careful of people offering to take your photos, they will want money to give your phone back.
