Pay homage to Luang Por Dam at Wat Chang Lek

🏡 Wat Chang Lek was built in 1780 (B.E. 2323) and was originally named Wat Pang Lek, as the villagers around the temple were blacksmiths, particularly skilled in crafting sickles for harvesting rice. Their craftsmanship was widely renowned. 🙏 It is speculated that the temple was originally constructed during the Ayutthaya period, as evidenced by the sandstone Buddha statue known as Luang Por Dam. The temple was later renovated in the early Rattanakosin era, as seen in the architectural style of the ordination hall, which may date back to the reign of King Rama I, and the intricately designed pagodas typical of early Rattanakosin art. Key attractions within the temple include: 🏠 The ordination hall, built in 1954 (B.E. 2497), features a front gable depicting a deity riding Garuda and a rear gable showing a deity riding Hanuman. The interior walls are adorned with oil-painted murals illustrating the life of Buddha. The boundary stones are made of gray-black granite, with naga-shaped designs and crown-like tops. ⛺ The viharn (assembly hall), a traditional Thai-style building, has a gable depicting Buddha in the Palilayaka posture.
