#dreamdestination “Khao Tom Pla Suan Ruean” is one of the legendary rice porridge shops that has been open for almost a hundred years. Currently, the descendants have taken the recipe to open a shop under the same name until there are 3 branches: Lat Phrao, Chan Road, and the original branch that moved from Suan Ruean Intersection to Nakhon Ratchasima Road near Ruam Chit Intersection. This time, we stopped by the original branch. The main menu has rice porridge, boiled and dipped, spicy salad, noodle soup, tom yum, and hot pot. There are quite a variety of ingredients to choose from. You can order according to the menu or order only your favorite ingredients to mix together. So, we ordered only our favorites as follows: ➡️ Rice porridge with fish eggs + oysters The shop uses sea bass and grouper fish, alternating depending on the ingredients available each day. This bowl of grouper fish has firm, chewy flesh, crispy skin, very fresh, no fishy smell at all. The fish eggs are in large pieces, very satisfying. The boiled oysters are soft and fresh, as well. The soup here has a mild flavor, with dried shrimp and fried garlic for extra flavor, and crispy tofu sprinkled on top. The shop's soybean sauce is really great. It's not salty like other shops, but it's sour and has a distinct lemon flavor. It's so delicious that you can almost scoop up the water to the bottom of the bowl. ➡️ Boiled and dipped mixed fish + squid + shrimp When you see the sauce, you have to boil and dipped it. In this dish, in addition to the same fish meat that goes in the rice porridge, you also order squid and shrimp to add to the team. The squid pieces are big and thick, very crispy, but a bit hard. The shrimp are selected for a big size, with sweet and bouncy meat. Topped with crispy fried garlic, it's so awesome. ➡️ Ba Teng The pork is medium soft, the sauce is a bit thick, and the flavor is a good balance of sweet and salty. I like to eat this style of Ba Teng with rice or rice porridge alone because I feel that the sweet flavor doesn't go well with seafood, so I bought only Ba Teng to take home. ➡️ Tom Yum Pla I also ordered it to eat at home. This time, I got sea bass. The meat was firm and fresh. The taste of the tom yum was sour with a strong lemon aroma that I like. The saltiness and spiciness followed closely. It was very enjoyable to sip. Overall, it is an old shop with good craftsmanship and good quality ingredients, but the price is quite high.
