Phra Sumen Fort was one of the 14 forts built during the reign of King Rama I to protect the capital. However, as time passed, the fort became unnecessary and was demolished. Phra Sumen Fort is one of the two remaining forts, the other being Mahakan Fort. Phra Sumen Fort was renovated in 1981, along with the opening of the area as Santi Chai Prakan Park today.
