St Heliers Bay: A Serene Coastal Walk Hidden by Auckland Locals

📍 Location St Heliers Bay is a small seaside community located about 11 kilometers east of Auckland's city center, at the easternmost end of the Tamaki Drive coastline. It offers expansive views and a tranquil atmosphere. ⸻ 🚗 Transportation • Bus: Take the Tamaki Link bus (TāmakiLink) from the city center and get off at the final stop, "St Heliers Bay." The journey takes about 30–40 minutes, and the scenic coastal route is stunning. • Driving / Uber: It’s a 20–25 minute drive from the city center. Driving along Tamaki Drive feels like a mini coastal road trip. Free parking is available around St Heliers Bay Road. ⸻ 📝 Personal Thoughts St Heliers is one of my favorite bays, and compared to Mission Bay and Kohimarama, it’s quieter and more peaceful. As soon as you step off the bus, you’re greeted by the beach. Walking on the soft sand while gazing at Rangitoto Island instantly relaxes you. The shoreline has benches and grassy areas where locals often stroll, walk their dogs, or simply sit and enjoy the view. It doesn’t feel like a tourist spot but more like a slice of everyday life. That day, I bought a cup of coffee and strolled along the beach. The breeze was refreshing, and as the sun set over the city, the sea turned golden—it felt like a scene straight out of a movie. There are several great cafes and restaurants nearby, such as La Fourchette (French-style brunch) and St Heliers Café & Bistro.
