A good respite on the side of the road, this hotel seems to be struggling, but the owners are making the best of it and provided good service. A bit run-down, it's very cheap and not bad for what you pay.
I booked 2 rooms, 4 nights via trips.com and 1 night via a credit card portal. We normally book direct with the hotel but it the 3rd party sites offered lower costs.
Neither third party booking site disclosed a $3 parking fee at the time of booking. Looking at the hotel website, I also do not see a parking fee disclosure. Mankato is a relatively small town, and the location is not busy enough to justify a parking fee; charging it as a surprise/undisclosed fees (resort, parking, etc) is a dishonest practice you should abandon if you want repeat business.
We were generally happy with the housekeeping, beds and room features. Issues with the TV signal and room keys were resolved by the staff in a timely manner.
I chose Fairfield based on past good experience with Mariott/Residence Inn/Fairfield breakfasts in other cities. We appreciate access to a basic breakfast, and were pleased with the coffee, fruit, and bagels. However the quality of the main course (instant scrambled eggs and so-called ”omelettes”) was disappointing. Yogurts were exclusively fat-free (chalky taste) in a padlocked at 9am sharp. Sausage patties (frozen/warmed) were in short supply and also not appetizing. For the room rate we paid, we hoped for a better breakfast.
We chose this hotel because it was close to the bus station, if not for that, I would choose a different location. I didn’t feel comfortable walking around at night although nothing happened. The room was fine as to be expected from the Hilton hotels.

One bedroom and one living room, between the bedroom and the hall is a bathroom, unique design, orange carpet, gorgeous. The appearance is very ordinary, there is a feeling of bright eyes in the lobby. There are microwave ovens, refrigerators, no kettles, toothbrushes, slippers. Pure old-fashioned style, no workaround, only rules, no Chinese service. The parking lot is large, free and easy to enter and exit.

RRannieGreat place to stay. The staff are very accommodating. The rooms are clean and updated. You can cast shows to the TV from your phone. The bathroom is clean and spacious. They serve good warm breakfast everyday too. The location is very close to Mall of America and Ikea. Just a 5 minute drive and you won’t have to worry about driving in the busy Minneapolis. It’s also not too far away from the outlet mall. The shuttle service will take care of you. The shuttle driver John is very friendly. Overall, it was a great experience. Will definitely book again next time.

GGuest UserMy boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at the Cambria hotel. He went to conference in downtown St. Paul while I checked out the Twin Cities. Location is excellent. My boyfriend easily took the #54 bus into St. Paul using the bus stop right next to the hotel. I checked out the MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge (a 3 min drive away) and the Mall of America / IKEA (free hotel shuttle which was super easy to use) in addition to other sites that I drove to (hotel offers free parking with plenty of open spaces). The free morning coffee in the lobby was delicious and strong. While breakfast was not free, the hotel room has a microwave and mini-fridge for us to make our own breakfast (oatmeal, bagels, yogurt, etc.) and keep cold soda/beer in our room. I also enjoyed their swimming pool. The water is cool but good for doing laps. Finally, we enjoyed their spacious, clean, and modern rooms. Thank you, Cambria!
GGuest UserSo—I love Sonder. Got a one bedroom with a living room, kitchen and balcony. Incredibly comfortable bed, and a bunch of pillows that I would buy for myself at home. Would have loved the balcony other than the road construction going on outside (not Sonder’s fault). Every staff that we interacted with was friendly and helpful. The road outside was torn up, my husband had just had his knee replaced and they gave us parking right outside the building instead of just down the street—thank you Sonder!!. One bedroom apartments come with free parking. I would always choose a Sonder facility over a hotel based on our experience. Usually great price vs hotel offerings, and you get so much more. We had a regular coffee maker, microwave, toaster, full size fridge, cooktop, dinnerware, silverware etc. Bathrooms provided soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Pick Sonder!!
JJer (JQLP)I’ve stayed here dozens of times. This stay we had no heat in our room. At checkout I told the front desk he should have maintenance check our room heater. I had a picture of the thermostat and showed him the air temp in the room was a chilly 62 degrees. He responded by saying they had turned off the boilers yesterday because it was warm outside. I told him that was ridiculous and wondered why they were not turned on again for the night. When I told him we woke in the middle of the night and we were cold, he simply stated we should have called the front desk and they would have brought us a space heater. I told him that’s ridiculous and 62-63 degrees is unacceptable. He offered no other solution, apology, or a credit of any sort. This is very disappointing as most of my other stays here were just fine.
SShannonThis is a road side hotel/motel its right off the highway in a very small town! It was very outdated, and decor was not matching, I think a man decorated and painted it LOL, Nothing matches anything lol, but my room was clean! Im not a picky person just needed a bed to sleep in for a night. The guy was very helpful and friendly when I checked in. I am a midnight person, so I decided i wanted some microwave popcorn at midnight, the microwave either ran to hot or i bought bad popcorn. But in less then 2 minutes it burnt really bad, I set off the smoke alarms....lol and the room smelt really bad even in the morning when I left. I'm sure I woke my neighbors, so I apologize for that. If you just need a place to sleep its fine and not gonna cost an arm an leg! I would stay again.
GGuest UserMy adult daughter and I had checked into the room around 5pm. The room smelled somewhat 'smokey' or maybe it was just musty, not sure.
After inside the room for a bit you could no longer smell it; which I guess is good.
When we returned to the room after a concert, they had locked the main hotel door so we had to walk around and find a door we could access; even with our key. You had to enter via their banquet facility. A bit irritating because 2 females walking around a hotel very early in the morning is not safe.
HHAOXUAt that time, 18-year-olds were not allowed to check in. I asked the taxi from the airport to help the driver to submit the documents... It was a very social experience! The front desk service is also very good, very reasonable. The layout of the room is ok, it is a bit small. Although the window inside is only half of the wall, my room is just on one side, so there are two side windows, the view is still very good, at least you can see the light right. The environment is very quiet.
