The worst hotel room we have ever stayed in and for a price of £190. Firstly the staff were all very nice, but.... We arrived at around 3.30pm on a Saturday for one night. We were told on arrival that we could only have breakfast at 7 to 7.30 Sunday morning or after 10am because the big group had fully booked all other times. Brcause we said we couldn't do those times the duty manager did offer us a saussge or bacon sandwich delivered to our room, which we had. Our room was room 8. Room 8 was up two flights of stairs, it was like a crows nest with windows on three walls, there was a queen bed, in front of the bed was a lovely bath tub, which looked great but was totally inpractical as there was no other shower, just ensuite toilet and wash basin. There was a very narrow bench seat running under the main window, no other seating, not one chair or desk. When night fell the room was cold with so many windows. The bed was far too firm and I woke with a terrible back the next morning, my wife a day after now having back pains. On checking out at 9am the big group were boarding their coach and the breakfast restaurant had two tables in use the rest was empty. I think the charge over twenty quid for breakfast, I hope somebody had a good fill on ours! We were visiting my mother who lives in a retirement home nearby, our daughter and her partner stayed down the road for half the price and had an excellent room plus a nice breakfast. We will never stay there again, awful place!

I'm unsure how this hotel has managed to get to a 4 star rating. I don't know how to describe my experience at the swan as it was a mixture of very good yet very bad! The good.. the breakfast and bar service was great. There is a gorgeous outside area opposite the front where you can sit and take in the view of the breathtaking cathedral. The average... the fixtures, fittings and fabrics of this hotel are gorgeous... but so poorly maintained. Attention to detail on cleanliness is missing. Dust accumulated in places that they can't be bothered to clean. Our room quite frankly was appalling. I appreciate it's an older style building, the wonky floors, rattly windows and ill fitting doors you can't do much about, but the standard the room is maintained you can. (See images) With the restaurant slap bang to the reception, unfortunately the first smell you get as you enter the hotel is whatever people are eating at that time of day, not a lovely aromatic perfume! Mixed feelings about the swan, it could be SO much better.

Started off great on the first visit, but all we wanted was beer and wine. Second visit 2 hours later, we ventured into cocktail land, big mistake!! Nothing like they looked on the advertised photograph, one not even the one we asked for, cubed ice instead of shaved, not in the crystal glass shown, and the topping of squashies not even there. Manager came to ask what was wrong, then came up with poor excuses, “we run out of squashies because the staff keep eating them, can’t stop them”, “servers were new and we all start somewhere don’t we?”. Plus adjacent tables were never cleared from an afternoon tea, for around 2 hours. We have been to many Coaching Inn properties, come on Swan and get your act together. But I won’t be back

This is a review for the restaurant only as we didn’t stay in the hotel. We had a fantastic experience at The Swan Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed dining in their restaurant. Staff were super attentive, regularly coming over to check that our food was ok and that we had enough drinks etc. The food we had was delicious too! We can’t wait to go back again!

Visited for a two night stay in February on the Dine and Unwind package. This includes two nights B&B and a three course dinner on the first night. The checking in experience was really easy and the staff were super helpful with local knowledge and dining reservations etc. We had a four poster room in the old part of the hotel which was spacious and clean but could do with some tlc. The included dinner was lovely with free choice of the whole menu. Breakfast was a full hot and cold buffet with optional freshly cooked hot choice from the menu. The staff cannot be commended highly enough. All super friendly, helpful and happy to chat. Quick shout out to Cathu, Cory, Kyle, Jelena and Leeroy. Would highly recommend this hotel for location, staff and food! I’d definitely return. Loved Wells.

I'm a local who has been coming to the Swan for many years for drinks but obviously had never stayed. However I needed somewhere to stay during some home renovations but that I could also work in the room too. I was a little apprehensive after the old owner had sold it to the Coaching Inn group and there were some teething issues after the transition. I'm happy to say it was an excellent 4 nights, the room exceeded my expectations and the staff were excellent, managing house keeping around my work hours. The only issues for me were very soft pillows, would prefer a firmer option, and the eternal issues of staffing the bar when it gets busy. Wells is a great little city, and The Swan is a fab place to explore from.

Lovely hotel in the centre of Wells. Our room was well appointed and had everything you could wish for. The restaurant served and excellent meal and the service was faultless. An excellent breakfast. Unfortunately we only stayed one night but we will definitely be back.

Lovely Hotel and staff. The room was quirky with a beautiful 4 poster bed, which was very comfy/ soft pillows. We slept very well! Will definitely stay here again. We didn’t have food at the hotel but the red wine and cocktail menu was fab xx…..

We can highly recommend this hotel . Gordon The General Manager and all his staff are a pleasure to meet , polite, curtious , efficient and professional. The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Wells with great on-site parking. Some reviews mentioned issues with negotiating the narrow entrance to the car park, but I have a large suv and had no problems at all. The hotel is clean throughout, our room was lovely , spacious and comfortable, The room was supplied with tea , coffee biscuits , 2 x bottled waters and a nesspresso machine with coffee pods. The bed was large and comfortable. Breakfast was very good , plenty of hot and cold choices , best quality orange juice we have tasted in years . We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food and wine were lovely. We will be returning here in the future Many thanks to all the staff at the hotel for a very pleasant stay.

We have been visiting the Swan for over 30 years, and have been saddened by the decline in standards in recent years. A simple order of an Americano with hot milk, and a cream tea turned out to be very disappointing. First the Americano came with hot milk in another cup, rather than a jug, a cup and saucer and the tea pot, with only one spoon for the two. I had to ask for some sugar, even though I had requested this when ordering. The hot milk inevitably spilt when being poured from the cup, into the coffee and still no sign of any milk to go with the tea, or another spoon!! After a wait of several more minutes eventually the scones, cream and jam arrived, with no napkin, and by which time the tea was stewed. Still no sign of some milk for the tea, or an additional spoon, so I had to request these and a fresh pot of tea, as by now the tea had been standing for about ten minutes and was no longer fresh. Once the additional spoon, milk and napkin arrived I thought we were set to enjoy the cream tea, but alas no. The scones were the worst I have ever had, being very chewy with the strangest texture I have ever experienced, and at age 71 I have had a lot of cream teas in my time!! Overall not an experience we would like to be repeated, or we will be looking for a new venue.

Staff and service very good, looked nice inside the restaurant ….Food was sparse, pie if the day, although good was small. Mash was Smash and a few carrots with gravy. Cost £18.70. Ladies toilet was blocked, used mens. Left feeling hungry as I couldn’t eat the “potato”

We visited the Swan yesterday for the first time, and we decided to try the Sunday lunch. The restaurant was really nice and the food was lovely, excellent quality and price, if we lived local we would visit every week. Callum was really friendly and helpful and the rest of the staff were all excellent. If we visit Wells in the future, we would definitely book a room here,
