Vindel Motel

I removed my review about new owners no longer allowing pets. I received a message from a manager that there was a mistake on the website/reservation site and only some rooms are pet free. Communication has been difficult though. I have had no response from emails and have had one phone call message. When I tried to call back (hours later) I got a recording with no message option. I hope former owners Mark and Clara are enjoying their retirement : )

I think Mark and Clara might be enjoying a well deserved retirement. I booked a room online and was informed that pets are not allowed AFTER they took my credit card info. I see no cancel option on the booking site. One email is invalid, the other there is no reply. The phone number has a recording that they closed for the season. I will keep trying to reach somebody. Returning guests should know there will be no person to check you in, you receive a code on your phone. New guests should be aware that the glowing reviews are from the hard work and dedication of the previous owners. I hope the new owners take continue to maintain this nice little motel.

This hotel is a small mom and pop place but it exceeded our expectations we were going to Mackinac island but not staying on the island so we wanted to find a place that was not crazy expensive but clean I have absolutely no complaints and would stay here again

First, a Vindel story from the early 1980s: Hitchhiking to Marquette from the Detroit area, I found myself a bit stranded at the Straights with three bucks to my name. The rides that day were not consistent, and darkness was now upon me. Even if I got over the Bridge, hitching on US2 at night was not an option - too dark, not enough traffic. I needed something fast and direct to Marquette. Or to call it a day somewhere. Wandered over to the Vindel. Gave the guy my best shot: I'm a student, broke, and need a place to stay. Would the gentleman at the desk consider a room in exchange for anything I could do: some yardwork the next day, clean some rooms. . . anything? Said he'd give me a room if he could see a student ID. After a quick glance, he handed me my key. Followed a short time later by a soft knock on the door and a fried chicken dinner! Yeah, it was a much different world. Over 40 years now and this place has not lost its charm. Refurbished, sparkly clean, with tasteful, intact vintage done expertly and to the finest detail. Nothing about it seems rushed and even the in-room coffee is good. The beds are fantastic, we slept like bears in January. A real standout among the overnighter places here, as most others pale in comparison. And many cost more. My advice: If breaking up a trip to spend a night in Mack City, go to the quieter, less touristy side, west of the Bridge. And find the Vindel, or just push on. Because I can't be sure a student ID will get you a room these days. :)

Stayed 2 nights as were here to visit Mackinac Island. Check in was easy; and pets are allowed The property is clean and very well maintained. Had an outdoor pool which we did not use. Room was clean and it appears it was recently renovated; bed comfortable. Outside noise was minimal. Walking distance to main ***** and ferry docks. Would highly recommend this place.

If you prefer peace and quiet away from the hub bub of town this easy to find motel is squeaky clean, modern and great for a good night's sleep. Just up the street is Darrow's Restaurant with excellent food. The bed had one of the most comfortable mattresses ever! And why not give your business to a private owner instead of some huge chain of motels? AIso I should mention the price is reasonable too. This is the place if you like privacy and quiet.

This motel is really great The bed was so comfortable and I loved the comforter! The room was nicely decorated and was very clean. The room had a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker along with a nice tv. Clara the owner was super sweet. Highly recommend the Vindel Motel. You will not be disappointed.

My wife and I had a wonderful, recent two night stay at the Vindel Motel. It is the perfect place for a relaxing stay or to serve as launching point to multiple interesting destinations. Five stars in all categories. Mark and Clara, the proprietors, are the best!
