Burrator Inn

Awful customer service. Upon arrival we were greeted by a guy who claimed to be the duty manager with a rude and abrupt attitude. Waited over a hour for food, and very disappointed once food arrived. Very overpriced and small portions. After complaining we didn’t receive any apologies, I asked for free dessert for the children. This was then over half a hour Wait to complain again to be told the chef got stuck in the freezer!! No one came out to apologise of the delays. The ice cream never turned up! We left very dissatisfied and won’t be returning or recommending this place. Staff need training up on customer service.

Heavens what must foreign tourists think of the way this pub serves & prices its food? Sunday lunch, the young staff didnt have a clue about the menu. Chaotic service & pretty awful food. Overpriced for quality served. Roast swamped in Bisto gravy, goats cheese & artichoke flan? filo pastry base with knobs of cheese a few min tomatoes & small slice of artichoke a joke. £8.45 for 250 ml of pinot plonk that frankly was prob only £4 a bottle at Aldi. Dingy setting. Such a shame for the 'gateway ' to the moors. NOT recommended.

Stopped for a lunch. Not offered the £11 menu. Only had soup and a sandwich. Brought the wrong thing first time round, the soup as then cold when we got it. Retirned it and they said I thought it might be! Awful waste of money, will not be back in a hurry. So disappointing..

Nice location on the edge of Dartmoor. Plenty of car parking. Food was god and bedroom was good size. TV in room didn't work, was informed aerial had been damaged in recent snow storm (over a week ago). Bedroom was so hot I switched all radiators off at about 3am (too hot to sleep anyway). And the net curtains in the bathroom had mould on the bottom. Breakfast was OK, full English with toast, orange juice and tea. The live music turned out to be a DJ playing vinyl. Probably won't return.

Chose Burrator Inn as a stop for some exploration of Dartmoor on the way to a holiday in Cornwall and couldn't have been happier with our choice. A clean, spacious room, which, as it was at the rear of the property, was exceptionally quiet and had the bonus of an equally spacious bathroom. The beer garden and a well stocked bar was very welcome after exploring the local reservoir area. The food, especially the prawn and crab linguine, was excellent, the staff were friendly and attentive and a decent breakfast set us up for the drive south. Would definitely return.

This is an inn to be reckoned with! Usually with a pub i end up choosing the safe house burger option or fish and chips because the other stuff on offer is so uninspiring. One check of the Burrator’s menu and you’re already wanting to try at least 3 starters and then 4 mains as they all look so tempting. So we opted for crispy pork starter to share. I liked the idea of using the starters as tapas style sharing dishes but I wanted to try one of their mains. We went for one crab linguini and the tomahawk pork with padrón peppers. The pork was an absolute beast of a meal. Beautifully cooked and crispy rind. It comes with a choice of three sauces plus chips, obviously. I struggled to finish this and I’m ashamed to say I couldn’t eat all the chips. The crab linguini was super fresh too! Was planning on a dessert because they all looked so good but alas it couldn’t be done! Let’s also give a shout out to the bar staff and management. They’re all super friendly and professional. The pub itself has a great atmosphere with a nice mix of locals and travellers enjoying the same space. There’s a pool table on the other side away from the restaurant area with a TV which isn’t too imposing. In front of the bar in between the two areas is a kind of cosy hotellesque lounge where a cocktail or two wouldn’t look out of place! If you’re in Devon or passing through I highly recommend giving this place a go whether it’s a quick drink or an evening meal. It doesn’t disappoint!
