Hotel Admiral

Like some reviewers have said, this Hotel is one of two halves, the rooms are a little tired and could do with some updating, we normally do self-catering holidays and so the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms took a little getting used to. Having said that, the views, lounge and restaraunt areas and every single staff member more than make up for this. Every single staff member is a credit to the hotel, special mentions to Maria and Salvatore - Merci beaucoup...!!!

Great views and good choice of food for breakfast. However not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. There is no transport to the hotel. You are dropped off on the marina and have to get your own luggage to the hotel. Also if you wish to go on any of the Tui excursions you have to catch the 7.30 bus from the marina up into the town to the trip pick up point. So basically no time for breakfast. When you are dropped back at what was the pick up point you can wait up to 30 minutes for a bus back down to the Marina. If you have got good legs and like to walk then the location may not be a problem for you. The evening meals were of very poor standard and limited choice and most people only ate there on the first night or if it was raining. We took a travel kettle, but if you ask reception they do have kettles you can use in your room. This hotel is mainly in the shade, only getting the sun in the morning so possibly ideal in the hight of summer but not so good early or late season. I enjoyed my stay, especially the views however if I’d of known about the difficult accessing the excursions I would have preferred to stayed elsewhere.

We thought we would try this hotel after seeing a photo of their breakfast ( we only do bed and breakfast) we were not disappointed. We found all the staff very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Rooms cleaned daily and spotless. We love marina grande so will return.

This hotel has a number of drawbacks. But my biggest gripe is that the restaurant charges for mineral water but actually serves tap water in a reused bottle. In fact it was slightly salty so may be something other than tap. I shudder to think. The room tap water was ok and the same brand we bought else where was delicious. We thought the way the waiter delivered the water was a bit odd as a made a bit of a show of opening it. A dishonest practice and a health risk. Other than that the only two times we ate on the restaurant due to bad weather it was about the same quality or less than a truck stop. Maria running the place was not impressed at pointing out the burnt to ashes shrimps. Plenty of restaurants in the bay but are over priced tourist traps. Better to walk into Sorrento. The location requires a good stiff walk uphill to the main area but worth it. Not one for anyone with mobility issues. No dangers of getting sunburn. The location at the bottom of a cliff and orientated north east means there are only a small number of hours in the morning when you can see direct sunlight. The hotel is basic and clean in the public areas. Although the live in staff on our floor made sure it always smelt of cigarette smoke. I rarely give places bad reviews unless there is something pretty in wrong - in this case drinking their bottled water is likely to be a health hazard.

Lovely hotel fantastic staff loved this place nothing bad to report Breakfast has many options The sun terrace has fabulous views of Vesuvius small fishing boats pass by it is amazing … rooms are cleaned daily all in all it is a good sound hotel with a great atmosphere they are so accommodating

Just come back from a 4 night stay at Hotel Admiral. As most of the other reviews state, the general areas of the hotel are lovely, very clean and modern. The bedroom areas are very dated and in need of a refurb but as we only used the room a limited amount it didn't bother us. We upgraded to a sea view room and I would say it was 100% worth it. Breakfast was great with lots of choice and very tasty. But the best thing about this hotel is it's location, Marina Grande is just stunning day and night with some fab restaurants and it's only a 15 minute walk into the centre of Sorrento. All in all a good hotel and we would definitely stay there again.
