Really quirky pub with a warm welcome, good food and friendly locals . OK it's slightly shabby in places and could do with some TLC, but it's clean and great value for money. We had a lovely view of the Abbey. The bed was comfy and we had a good night's sleep. The breakfast was plentiful and freshly cooked to order. The traditional and veggie breakfasts were great. Will stay again. Thanks to all the lovely staff for a fab Xmas break.

I received a warm welcome from the staff. My double room was at the back,so although just a view of a fire escape,thought sgould be nice and quiet.Room was large,with a comfortable bed,clean bathroom. Went for a meal at nearby Capri restaurant -well recommended. Bar lively at night. Unfortunately a nearby nightclub's thudding beats could be heard until 3am,so didnt sleep well,such a shame. In the morning sadly the breakfast was disappinting,the sausages were dry and rock hard,no black pudding,another shame.Nice views of the abbey but furniture worn and a bit scruffy. Staff are lovely here but when visit again will try somewhere else

Pleasantly surprised by our trip. Parking to rear, reception staff very welcoming, given our keys and information leaflet about the pub. 10% off food and drink in bar for residents. Up to room 10, pleasant aspect, view of Abbey. Double bed with nice crisp white linen. Usual tea, coffee supplies. Shower over bath, fluffy white towels placed on heated towel rail which remained on to keep bathroom a comfortable temperature. Overnight I slept decently with my earplugs, however husband heard every strike of the Abbey clock and returning guests. Breakfast served hot and cooked to order. We would stay again.

We had an overnight friday stay. First floor room at the front overlooking the square. Surprisingly quiet. Nice clean room - all they usual facilities. Comfy beds. Nice food, lovely friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Free parking is a winner. Lovely breakfast. would recommend.

Lovely stay, staff friendly, great breakfast and welcoming regulars. We were visiting family in the local area and went for a day into York, train was ideal, 20 minutes direct, no hassle. We arrived back at the George for our evening meal and thoroughly enjoyed.

we stayed here 23feb had a great time the staff were fantastic even helped us download the app they are a credit to the company the room was fine and we will return in the summer thanks for a brill night selby as got alot to offer with the abbey just over the road

Check in was very easy as we arrived about 7 pm and the bar was full we had been to a family funeral and weather was really cold we had room 1 it was lovely and warm the bed was large clean and very comfy I don’t usually sleep very well ( there was a bit of noise in back yard )but slept well the breakfast was excellent plenty of coffee orange juice and beautiful soft bread I couldn’t fault anything room was a little tired but good value for money
