Our extended family was recently the Hotel Tay Beach for a wedding. The visuals there are stunning...it truly looks like paradise. Additionally, the frontline staff were exceptionally kind and consistently went out their way to ensure we were happy. That said, there are good reasons that I have rated it as average. First, dealing with them in the leadup to the trip was difficult. Getting an answer on email took persistence. Second, the food prepared by the hotel was just okay. Third (and related), the prices for everything there were very high, even inflated. Our Colombian family found out that prices for rooms, drinks, and food were inflated - they said - because many on the trip were from the US and Europe. I wouldn't mind if we got our money's worth, but, again, the food was average, the cocktails watered down, and the rooms, though visually nice, were very basic. I get it, it is an eco-resort, but for the price, I would have expected a little more attention to detail. Fourth, my impression was that the pool was not sufficiently chlorinated. There was a sort of dirty film on the surface and a lot of debris. Fifth, a lot of people ended up getting sick. To be fair, there is no consistency in the symptoms and illnesses (several had GI issues and I had badly infected bites of some sort), so I can't tell the source...eco resorts are close to all kinds of nature by definition. Finally, almost everyone I spoke to had issues with the final bill in terms of additional charges. This could be because they use paper receipts for everything and, at a party, there were a lot of drinks ordered. I offer the above as feedback to the hotel and knowledge for the traveler. I did not hate the place (it is MUCH better than one of its neighboring resorts we stayed at a couple years ago). If you are an experienced traveler and looking for a unique place close to the national park and other attractions, go for it. It really is beautiful. Just check the bill and use more repellent than I did. If you are not sure, you may want to consider the Mariott in Santa Marta and taxi to the sites.
