The manager works very hard and the location is superb. I stayed 4 nights in the room 2 which was facing the street. I enjoyed the sunlight and the authentic old town view. San Sebastian bar owners keep to their hours that the crowd noise ends at more or less 23:00 that I could sleep like a baby in a very clean room. Then I was moved to the room 3 with its own toilet and shower, but the window was facing the courtyard. The TV and the conversation of the residents echoed down the walls surrounding the courtyard, but what kept me awake was the mechanical noise from the boiler of the shared bathroom next to the room 3. The manager perhaps does not know about this because he is always walking around, but the mechanical noises can be heard when one is lying down in the bed. I had my laptop play a noise maskng music but the repetious noise still penetrated which left me insomnia. In the morning, I was further started by the shower noise and hair dryer noise of all the guests which transmitted via the old walls. After the sleepless night the noise hit my nerve. Thus my review is mixed: 5 stars for the room 1, 2 and probably 4, but 1 star for the room 3. Combined point of 6 divided by 2 makes the 3 stars recommendation. This can be solved by putting insulation material on the wall facing the shared bathroom.
