Howard Johnson by Wyndham San Marcos

First of all the pictures that are online, look NOTHING like what the property looks like. The whole place is filthy, from the check-in office, to the parking lot and worst of all the room. When you walk into the room, you get hit with the over powering scent of Fabulouso cleaner. Almost like they are using that to cover up the dingy smell of the room. When we checked in, the person working did not use a computer to check us in, instead he wrote our information down in a spiral, which is where they were logging all the rooms. The plexiglass that separates you from the person behind the counter was filthy and scratched and you could barely see the other person. Everything about the place is run down. The door has a gap all around it, where you can see light in some places. We pulled the blankets back to check the sheets and the bed had a large sink hole in the mattress with a yellow stain. We also found some sort of scab like or dried up insect in the sheets. I went to talk to the manager about getting a refund because I could not bring myself to touch or lay in the bed, and he told me we could not refund me until the transaction showed that it was completely processed and not showing pending. He said, once that happened, I could call them back and he would refund my money. I have been on the phone with numerous HJ offices, and have filed a complaint. This place needs to be inspected for safety and hygiene, I don't understand how it stays open.

The stay was great. Clean room great service. Dark room wish it was darker lol. It was quite bed was comfortable.

The air-conditioning was so loud we had to turn it off to sleep. If you tried to use the shower you couldn't.

Rooms don’t look like what the picture advertised. TV didn’t work in our room so we had to love to another room.

As soon as we arrived to check in, I was met with two different clients from the hotel who were putting in complaints about how dirty their rooms were. When we went to our room, the beds were made, but they were full of hair of all sizes. I don't know if the sheets had been placed on the uncleaned carpet or were just switched out from another room. I was just thankful to have traveled by road cause we had two blankets we were able to to use on top of the dirty sheets. It was myself, my husband and my daughter on this trip and we all opted for sleeping in our clothes and not pajamas.

This has been the worst experience I have had in a long time and the people at the Hotel were very rude and did not do the room cleaning. When I approached them to ask why they had not done it, they told me that because there was no staff and that I did want to go I could It was 8 at night to go and with a person who didn't care that they were in a wheelchair and it was very very cold, I will never stay in that hotel in my life and I don't recommend it,

We had a quick stay to break up our travel and get some rest. Easy check in/out and room had all the amenities in working order and good condition. Although close to the highway (off the access road), our stay was quiet - or we were so tired we didn't notice. Had all the supplies in room for coffee and room was clean. Parking lot is well lit.

Meager accommodations. Lobby is too small for the breakfast crowd. Rooms are ok but you can tell they are trying to hard to cover up the age of the hotel. I used to stay there prior to HJ buying them out. Price is fair for a single night for solo person. For a family I’d have an issue staying there.

Do not stay at this hotel. The towels were stained. The area felt very unsafe with people partying and fighting outside. I did not feel comfortable with my children and we left without staying at the hotel. The bedding was stained, pillows were stained, the shower had dead bugs.
