Hotel Sonar Bangla Kolaghat

We visited the hotel on a weekend trip to Kolaghat for 1 night in November 2023. We stayed in AC Premium Room at the top floor (room# 310), which was nice, clean and spacious. We booked directly through the hotel's website. The hotel is actually in Bagnan, Howrah and not in Kolaghat, Purba Medinipur. The road to the hotel from NH16 highway is easy and well-paved (except for a small patch). We encountered a small queue of 3-4 folks ahead of us during check-in. No welcome drink was offered during the wait of 10-15 minutes though. The hotel is well maintained and serves good food. The bed and pillows were nice and clean. We slept without any discomfort. The bathroom was spacious. Even at the peak hours, both the room service and the restaurant served us within a reasonable time. The food variety and quality were both excellent. The swimming pool was operational and we loved it as well. Kids enjoyed the playground, which had slides, seesaw, merry-go-round and swings. They also had a trampoline on the lawn, which was very nice. Although the swimming dress code was not followed at all, which was a bummer. The hotel has a game room with table-tennis, chess & snooker and a well-maintained gym as well. Overall, it was an excellent stay and we hope to go back there again.

Beautiful location, just beside the Runarayan River, well maintained, spacious rooms, efficient and prompt service. An ideal location to have mental and physical rest from everyday rush of city life, especially for senior citizens. Only problem is that it seems to be over-priced.

I'm currently staying with my friends at your property and it has been an extremely disappointing experience till now. Other than a 5 star for the location and view I have no reason to give a thumbs up for any service.The food quality and it's taste is horrible.Its surprising that a property like sonar bangla with so ***y properties at various location pays no heed to food,taste and it's quality.We had the worst chilli chicken, tandoori chicken,mutton and daal of our lives that we had ordered in the room yesterday.Both in taste and quality..Whoever the chef is doesn't know the A-B-C of cooking!!The room charge being 5000+per night atleast they shud have a descent breakfast spread and something that guests can relish.Again its a utter disappoin**ent.Options are so few and somehow we are filling our tummies.None of the amenities are maintained properly. I would not recommend this place to anyone .Also if your are travelling ensure that you are carrying your own food!!!

We had got the premium room, the ones on the top floor with the best views, and that is true the view of Rupnarayan River is truly stunning and during monsoon it is breath-taking. The rooms are clean, spacious, the furniture is of good quality, well decorated; the bathroom is clean, ample amenities are provided. The property is massive and very green, the air feels fresh and it feels like a detox after polluted air of our cities. They have a decent sized infinity edge pool and the water is clean and the pool is well maintained. Unfortunately, this is where the good things end. The parking feels like a public parking, they have more than a hundred rooms and not enough parking for that, there are a few security personnel who run around frantically trying to ***age all vehicles coming in. The reception is another tedious experience, during check-in which is at 1:00 pm, there is a huge Q like that of an airport check-in counter, we waited the best part of 30 minutes before we could check-in. When we went for lunch, there was a buffet spread available which for the day was 799 + GST and the spread was decent and the food quality was good. The restaurant feels more like a college canteen/ food court rather than the restaurant of a hotel where the room rent can go up to Rs. 8398 (List price of the Suite, inclusive of GST). The service is also like that of a food court, you have to keep looking for the service people, as there are so ***y guests, they are unable to keep up. And the restaurant ***agement did not seem to care. The afternoon is best spent walking around the massive property surrounded by trees, or there are cycles available for free which you can roam around within the property. If you are a pool person then you can enjoy the pool. We got a cup of tea and coffee in the evening and it was good. We placed our dinner order at 8:15 pm to be delivered by room service and asked them to deliver it to the room at 10:00 pm, as the hotel was near full, we did expect some delays but when the food did not arrive even at 10:15, we called the restaurant, and the food arrived at 10:35. The dinner was a disaster, except the tandoori roti and fish tikka which were really good, everything else felt like it was cooked in a hurry; not seasoned properly, the devil prawn felt like it was not fully cooked, the mixed fried rice was full of black pepper and near inedible. Next morning when we went for breakfast, the scenes were like that of a food court on Saturday evening, people grabbing tables, plates, spoons and forks; it felt like a charity event rather than a hotel. The buffet spread was good and most items which we Bengalis like to have for breakfast was available. But the restaurant felt very much like a fish market (except the smell). Next comes the check-out experience which is the final nail in the coffin for me to never visit this hotel again. Our room was on the 3rd floor on the far end of the hotel, and our car was parked in gate 2 so

Property is no doubt very good.Rooms are almost full in weekends.Better to travel with personal car orelse u need to operate via Toto from nearest railway station Deulti.Food was ok,but most importantly we had good experience with hotel staffs,they were polite and very good in service.Only complimentary water needs to be increased.

Most terrible place, no room service at all , linen terrible, house keeping room cleaning v v v v…. Poor. Worst experience, no hospitality, very bad place for marriage reception. They charge 5K room rent, by standard it should be 875/-. Bathrooms pathetic,,,, never ending list. Yes location is very good but they have spoiled everything. Better never be here.

Very bad experience. Room maintenance, food tastes and quality every thing disappointed. Rooms are good but no maintenance, no wifi in the room. Now coming to food tastes are horrible and quality also not good at all. Buffet breakfast was also memorable from negative side. Totally wastage of money
